Has anyone ever had a chick just turn up?

Where do you live? If it has been as hot as it is here in South Carolina the last few weeks, I am pretty sure the egg just hatched on it's own. It does happen. It is rare and unusual but possible. We also haven't had any rain for a while too, high humity but no rain. I might put an egg outside tomorow just see...... nah, maybe not

Sounds like a spoiled rotten kid got tired of their new 'pet' that Mommy bought him/her on an impulse. They probably saw your yard full of chickens, and dumped it there. At least that's better than leaving it on the side of the road. You have to give them that much credit.

But yay for you! You're a chicken hero!!!

Unlikely she was dumped as the barn is towards the back of a 5 acre property. We're in Georgia, it's been over 90deg for the past month with little to no rain. I'm leaning toward the self hatch also after reading the no turn hatch forum here. My laying hens are mostly Buff Orps, with a couple other breeds as well. We have 2 roosters, a buff and a white one we call leghorn (unsure of his breed). This chick is white for now. She's doin well, I think not having other chicks around her makes her the friendliest I've ever met. I've only been at this for 4 years, but don't expect trouble with intros. We've got a quarantine portion in the coop that I put new comers in for a few days, then open the door to main coop.

I never have had a chick but maybe 8 different times I can think of I have had people drop off grown chickens in the night. Its always just been one and most seems very tame like they were pets. I guess some people get them then get tired of having them and think they will have a good home with the rest of the chickens.
