Has Anyone Tried Cackles Fry Pan Special ?????????

oldrooster, as I said, I did decide to get MtHealthy's special of 200 cockerels for $50 and then sold majority of them a week later at the flea market section of the auction barn and sold them for $1 each or $10 a dozen and made enough money back to cover what I spent on the entire order including the pullets I bought for myself.

rareroo how did you present these chicks as meat birds or sex unknown buy at your own risk type of deals? I don't know how I wish to sell them either as you did a few days weeks old or wait until maturity and sell them off at a higher price. part of it is I need to figure feed costs for 200 chicks for 3-4months....

I did Cackle's Fry-pan special once. It was great. I only ordered 25, and I had also ordered 25 sexed pullets. They sent me 26 sexed pullets and 36 Fry-pan roosters in Red Sex-link, Barred Rock, Production Red and Buff Orpington, Oh, and one California White male - I had ordered CW hens, I think that's why they threw him in for me. Very nice of them, I thought. All beautiful, healthy birds.
The RSLs dressed out the best if you're looking for fryers.

Sure thing
So the chicks are 10 weeks old now, the Delewares are actually White Leghorns and Golden Comets. All 26 made it so far. Butchered 5 of them, each weighing between 2-3 lbs dressed weight. Ate 1 so far, nice and tender and they taste great! You have to like dark meat though because it is mostly dark meat, barely any breast meat, a lot of leg and thigh meat. ( Don't know the cost per bird).

When I called and asked them about this special they said they'll never send leghorns even if their in surplus because leghorn roosters are small and not considered a heavy breed. The only light-weight birds I guess you could possibly get would be some of the exotics they include with a 100 batch for free. 100 frypan chicks for 37.5 cents each and 5 free exotic chicks is a steal!!!!!

Yeah, I haven't updated in a while, the white chicks were Golden Comets/Cinnamon Queens. I butchered all 26. From the ages of 9-18 weeks. Dress weights between 2.5 and 6 lbs. The larges one was a little over 6 lbs and was a barred rock. Not sure of the cost per pound but it was pretty expensive. I would do this again in larger quantities if I could pasture or free range them.

I see free roos on craigs list all the time locally. People order females from the hatcheries because many city ordinances forbid roos because of the noise - people order pullets and get a cockerel and post it on craigs list to get rid of it before they get fined because they don't have it in them to kill their "pet chicken" for nugget dinner. This is why the sex link Red Stars are so popular because they can get 99% or better accuracy on gender guesswork.

So yeah good luck selling roos for profit - I'd expect in the end you'd be eating most of them for dinner. How would it be a profit after months of feeding them or did you have a huge area of unused grazing land and expect them to forage their own food for free?
