Hatch-a-long! ~ Anyone setting 8JAN-15JAN??

Just tried to candle a few but don't think my little led light is going to cut it this time. The blue eggs seem really thick too so I will have to try on day 10 or so.And yes already trying to figure out how to do a little renovating:)

HI. My eggs from Azriel (Montana) all hatched (13/13). Here are a few pics of the olive and easter eggers...most of my olive eggers have light feathering on legs too. there's many more chicks but these are the ones i grabbed for the photo shoot (-; all are thriving on day 2 post hatch. good luck with yours and i would love to see pics and hear how it's going too! I will upload more pics of the others this week.
Warmly, Cindy in AZ

Just wondering how your chicks were doing? and I was really curious how that silver one in feathering in, do you have any new pics of them? My fam and I are hoping we get a silver chick out of the batch

I am new to hatching too! I have one for sure going to hatch on the last day of Kan and I put 10 more in on Jan 18. I am so excited. I have babie fever bad

Ceocka I just had some silkies and showgirl eggs shipped from cj's silkies. She sells them by the each. She is in the buy, sell, trade here on BYC. beautiful birds. All eggs arrived intact. They went in the bator on Friday morning! Btw this is my very first attempt at hatching!

Oh I would love to have some showgirls. Can you tell me how to find her! I am getting excited now.

She is here on the Back Yard Chickens site. Look under the forum tab at the top . You will see "Buy, Sell, Trade". Click " Chicken Hatching Eggs" . cjexotic (her byc name) silkie eggs by the each. The eggs were shipped from PA to CA. Well packed and arrived intact. I just candled yesterday (day 3....i was going to wait but couldn't!

) and so far 5 of 14 have veins. One of those is a showgirl. I only ordered 7 eggs (she sent extras) so if only 5 hatch I'm ok with that. Good luck to all!!

Ahh the waiting game is so hard. Day 14 for me and the eggs are to dark to really see anything in now so I'm not going to candle anymore. Took out the three that were infertile and will be in lockdown starting friday! :)

I am on day 10 and I am not sure I will bother candling on day 14. My eggs shells are mostly dark to begin with but I candled today and most were so dark inside I could barely make out the veining! I removed 3 for blood rings and everyone else *I think* is good. Basically if it was too dark to see anything I figured something had to be blocking the light! :p The only hurtle now really is the odd shaped air cells. Everyone is going into lockdown in cartons, that's for sure!

Day 14 for me now. Most of the bantam red/black frizzle cochin eggs are moving along. It was really difficult to see anything on the LF cochin eggs, so I bought another LED high intensity (and tiny) flashlight, which made candling much better. So I was able to tell what was good still. I pulled all the undeveloped and a couple of "not sure" eggs on the 19th (rather pull them than have a mess in the bator!) and replaced with newly collected eggs since I have a separate still air bator for hatching. 4 days to lockdown!

My DH came in with a big batch of EE eggs last week, so I decided to also test out the new LG (backup) incubator. I have a full load of EE eggs set on the 19th, so they'll hatch the same time as the ones I replaced in the Genesis on the 19th. The LG is much more worrisome and needy than the Genesis. I may opt for moving the EE's into the Genesis after the current batch goes into lockdown!....We'll see.

Okay, so my DH thinks I'm really "too detailed" (translates to anal) because I'm keeping a spreadsheet that reflects the incubator, contents by rail/space, rooster(s), hen(s), set date, calculated lockdown, candling results, final results, etc. Does anyone else out there do this or am i really as bad as he says I am???

Sounds like you keep records like a professional breeder. Not a bad thing for sure and great practice if you have any plans to expand your hatching.
