To add to woes a windstorm blew in at 7 this morning and by 7:35 power was out. It was restored a half hour later - no worries for incubator and hatcher but lone chick wasn't happy.
I have 50 two week old freedom rangers in an outbuilding feathering out nicely but I think I'll try to find the smallest one to put with the lone ranger for company and heat.
This wind is supposed to be with us all day with lows tonight in low 20s.
I'm going to be making sure the generator works today.
Okay the end of the world that is just like the Y2K bug back in 2000. The only one who knows when the world will end is god.b.t.w. the world is going to end tomorrow, so why care....![]()

Oh and am I the only one that has chickens who stand in the cold rain? Yes they have a warm dry place to be or if they want to be outside they can get under the shelter, but no they have to stand in the rain and get all wet and make me worry so I bring them out of their pen and put them under the porch with treats to keep them there, Oh now I get it they do it on purpose so I will give them the extra treats.![]()

do tell-why can you not incubate in your off grid home? We are in a passive solar berm house and have plans for a wind turbine and solar panels to nudge our home the final bit. Now I need to know!Do you have to get all those eggs through customs?? Yikes :/
All I ask is you take lots of picssince none of my hens have gone broody and I can't incubate in my off grid home, I haven't hatched any babies from our flock ..
