and the one that did not make it;

and a video
Was it hatching here or did it stop there? I had one stop right after half zipped sad. Eggtospy showed he was malformed.

I had to go to work with 2 pips left. When I cam home 9 hrs later - that was the only one. It had a hole in the egg but bsolutely no sign of life left so i started to peel away the shell. It was very wet but not goo-ey. I looked back at my notes and it was the only one that did not lose at least 11% weight by day eighteen. It may have had a problem with the permiability of its shell or membrane.

You guys, I think I might have a problem. Hope keeps shaking her head spazzingly every now and then for no apparent reason... Her head is all wet compared to the rest of her body, so I'm guessing that she accidentally dunked her head into a water container... She is so cute... How do I get her to like me? Every time I put my hand up to her, she peeps and runs away. I need to get her a friend. She's been so lonely all day... Should I order a few chicks online... or hatch more? What kind of chicks should I get if I were to order any online?? I am a chicken freak already, and I only have one! lol

Before you hatch again - make sure you have an incubator with a good thermostat and a thermometer - us old people have will have trouble surviving another one of your hatches.

I was using just a heat lamp and a hygrometer from a pet store and water bottles for water reservoirs... Any way I can improve on my incubator? I'll put some pictures:

I can't do anything very expensive, cause I have no (or at least very little) money, so just minor details that will help them hatch would be good... Maybe better temperature/ humidity control...? Should I take away the holes from the top so the humidity will stay in better? Or will that make a difference? I need improvements!!!

... I'm surprised that ANY of them hatched!!!

3D you had holes in the top?? Holes??

Thats why the humidity wasn't rising

too much ventilation.
First thing you do is get rid of the holes... have you calibrated your hygrometer and thermometer? Get an analog alcohol thermometer (red liquid inside), I was using 2 of them and I did constant testing for 3 four days to calibrate them, I figured 1 was right on but the other was 2 degree F lower, so I marked it, and still used both. Then I 'imported' a hygro+thermo combo digital (htcd) and checked to see if it read the same as the good one and it did. Then I put this htcd alongwith the other analog hygrometer in for the salt-test. Then calibrated the analog one dead-on and found the htcd was 12% lower but could not be calibrated, so I marked the difference on it. This is how I calibrated my devices, and thats way too important.

b.t.w. how did you control the temp? Thermostat?

Okay chicken people I need help! I went and checked on my broody today and there was no progress in any of them. She had 11 last night and 2 were busted open when I looked. One was either not fertilized or died early and the other was a fully formed chick that had not absorbed any of the yolk so I am assuming it died as well and maybe mama accidentally cracked it open. That left 8 so I float tested all of those and 4 floated and 4 sank. I put a small hole in the sinkers and they were all dead so should the 4 floaters be okay or is this test not always accurate?

I am confused flockgirl. Why would they die

My broody did good, 1 died but she hatched 6 out of the 7 fertile eggs. Is your broody out on the cold?
I don't know about the float test, but did you candle to check for any movement?? You can see if they are pipped... what day are they on?
