Hatch Along March 1st

I candled this morning and marked air cells. So far, so good. All eggs were going strong and good air cell growth. Fingers crossed...one more week.

On the home stretch! :)

I culled out all the infertile eggs, out of 24 set I've only got 9 that were fertile (I cracked open all the ones I culled and sure enough, none of them had even begun to develop). But I weighed and candled those remaining 9 last night and they are all on track, about the correct weight and wiggling away inside. So I may have a fertility issue with that roo! But I am hoping at least some of these 9 will hatch, fingers crossed here, too!!!

Sorry to hear about all of the infertile eggs. That is so frustrating. Fingers crossed for your 9 and saying a little prayer too. :)

Yay for your wigglers! And all my infertile eggs just serve to teach me something about that particular roo. I know he's not playing favorites, because the nine that are fertile include at least one from each hen in his pen. So he's making it around to them all, he's just got an issue. But he's a Dominique, and low sperm motility has been linked to the rose comb genes, so it's nothing new. I may not keep him in the breeding program long term, but I would like to get at least a few chicks out of him before I retire him. So yes, I'm rooting for those nine! :)
