Hatch Along - Setting eggs June 7th.....anyone else?

well I'm done! Still have 6 eggs in the bator, but I see no signs of life. 33 good eggs, 27 hatched. 2 died. So I have 25 still alive. One died with in a half an hour after hatching. Took it about 16 hours to hatch. Ad it hatched today, on day 24. Any ideas? Then found one dead in the brooder last night. It was flat as a pan cake! No idea why...all seemed healthy in the AM, we were gone all day. Again any ideas??? Does anyone know are Silkies more delicate? The 2 I lost were Silkies. I have 1 silkie that can't walk very well. One leg seems to be just a little fatter then the other. Does anyone know if time will correct that? so I have 2 Buff Brahma's. 3 Buckeye's, 12 Polish Crested, and 8 Silkies.

My hatch was set on the 8th. So Friday was DY21. 4 of the 6 have hatched, 1 LS x RIR and 3 SLW. one of each left in the bator, no signs of pipping. The last to pip was about 4pm yesterday. How long do I leave it before I should inspect (maybe float test Ive heard mentioned here and a peek inside?) If one is just positioned badly I wouldnt want to leave it too long...

Today is Dy22, do I leave it until 2morrow? Its best for me to do stuff at night as I have 2 yr old twins!!

I'll post pics as soon as get a chance!!
I babysit my twin grandsons and their younger sister. They are 8 and she is 5. I watched them when they were small too. I know just what you mean!!!!

Hi all,
Just wanted to report that after starting with eight eggs and finding only three to be fertile, we were really worried about the health and hatching of the remaining three eggs. But they all hatched on time and are healthy! Cute little EE chicks - one yellow, one blue, and one black with white chest. My son has named them Goldie, Silver, and Coal. What color will they feather out?! So excited to find out. This has so far been a great experience and I'm just very relieved to not have had to deal with any tragedies.

Congrats Seslar!

We had 2 EE's and 2 Ameraucanas. The EE's are yellow, and then I got one blue and one black Ameraucana. My EE's already have some feathers on their wings and they are white with rust coloring..but not sure if that will stay. I think your black...may be solid black when it feathers out, but I'm new to this too so don't put any stock in my guesses.

Well the 7 that were left did not hatch, the 4 I was sure were going to ended up not :( I am now dealing with a loan chick gasping for air. I am not sure what is wrong with her, she was fine this morning and then all of a sudden my mom went in when she stopped by and said she was gasping. I just put shavings in as they were all about 4ish days old and the paper towels weren't cutting it. I am hoping I didn't screw it up and it ate some :( No mucus or icky eyes just like it isn't getting enough air, walking around and chirping though.

I brought her in the living room with me and gave her her own tub, with paper towels and heat lamp. Crossing my fingers she makes it.

I hope she makes it too.

We eggtopsied our remaining eggs. All of the blrw had ruptured air cells. Of the two Wheaten Marans, 1 was fully developed and the other nearly fully developed. I really don't know what happened. The air cells were intact. The one EE that was left was only a little devoloped. So for our first hatch..20 chicken eggs and 4 turkey eggs...we hatched out 3 turkeys and 6 chickens. Pretty awful I'd say. The babies are doing well though.

I gave them a mirror today...they like it =)

I like the mirror pictures, especially the one of the one chick checking itself out...that one looks like it should be on a greeting card or poster.

My final count: 11 Silkie chicks. Started out with 18 eggs, but several were clears and a couple had blood rings. They are very cute!

The big EE I've named Monster was hysterical when I first put it in there. She was pecking at it, standing tall...then low, raced to the end of the mirror, looked back at herself and then looked behind the mirror. She looked back and forth several times as if she thought surely the other chick must have gone behind it. We were laughing =) The black Ameraucana spends a lot of time in front of the mirror too.
