Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

Not necessarily. I've had hatches that were totally silent well into day 21. I know it's worrisome though.

I'm freaking out over this one egg nearly threw away this morning. It's been chirping and rocking like crazy for HOURS. I want the little guy to pip so badly.
Well my fiancee thought she heard peeps on Thursday... I never heard anything when I listen and we didn't hear anything yesterday... Today we thought we heard another peep and we think one of our eggs moved... We don't know for sure though... And what sucks is we went into lock down 12 hours early so we ended up not candling our last time... So we have No idea whats going on in those shells. PLUS we have maran eggs so 1, they are very dark and 2, a few people said they are usually late and can be up to 5 days late!!! So that could mean we don't see any fluffy butts till THURSDAYS!!!! The suspense is killing us! We really hope we get a pip soon!

Yesterday was day 21 for the two orp eggs that made it . Early in the afternoon withought me noticeing any peeping pips or zipping a big fat fluffy orp chick hatched but nothing from the other egg yet. Today at around 8 am was day 21 for the 3 serama 7 store eggs one serama hatched and I have one store egg and one serama egg pipped. Nothing from any of the others.

Okay, today is day 21 for the first 17 eggs I set, day 14 for the other 12, until this morning, not a peep or a pip, Then around 7:30 my son just about jumped out of his skin with excitement because he heard peeping coming from the eggs! I went to look and we had 2 that had pipped, It's 10 hours later and not much progress other than I can see 3 more eggs that have pipped. The one with the largest hole sticks its beak out through the membrane a little bit but hasn't expanded the hole. The other one still has the same small hole, but started cracking the shell on nearly the opposite side. I'm concerned about the humidity as I've stated before- don't want to mess with them but don't want to just sit back and watch them not make it out of the shell at this point. I now have a wet papertowel and a wet washcloth in with them to help with the humidity, just wish our weather would stop going nuts with the wide temperature swings.

Shouldd I stop turning the other 12 that aren't due until next week until these guys hatch, or is it better to do a quick turn just a couple of times a day?

Ok here are my stats...1/3 day 21 eggs pipped and hatched, nothing from the other two. 1/3 day 20 eggs pipped and is starting to zip ( jumps w/ excitemebt) but nothing from the other two, and one bantam egg on day 19, nothing happening there either.

This is my first incubator hatch, so I'm new to all of this. How long is it suppose to take for a chick to dry once hatched, cuz my little one from this morning still looks wet just along its back.

I swear that little thing wants me to cuddle it!! Ugh...I'm waiting though!! :)

If it were me I would stop turning the other eggs until all these chick hatch and get moved to the brooder. Id be affraid to shrink wrap them losing humidity every time you open the incubator cover.

I only had 3 eggs in 2nd hatch & I turned them quickly! Once the first batch started hatching, they turned the 3 for me! Once the 3 were in lockdown, the first hatch was in the brooder. That's just how it happened for me. Not sure about that many eggs to turn, or not to turn. Sally Sunshine I think, knows a lot about this.

They take a long time to dry! Up to 12 hours.

Is that what happens to them??? I didn't know! This is my first time hatching and am still learning TONS! Should I be concerned about the first one to break through but still hasn't made anymore progress almost 12 hours later? The chick is still poking its beak out and moving it from time to time, but not as much as earlier in the day. Thanks for the info & guidance!

Yesterday was day 21 for me. Out of 17 eggs in lockdown, 14 hatched yesterday! 1 died while zipping, but I'm still very happy about the results. The last chick hatched yesterday evening, and I moved all dry chicks to the brooder this morning. Pictures coming soon. So I thought my hatch was all wrapped up....BUT...

I candled and float tested the 2 remaining eggs, which looked dead. I placed them on the counter in the kitchen to be eggtopsied later, and I unplugged the incubator. An hour later I was making coffee, and I heard CHIRPING coming from one of the eggs. Oh no!!! I couldn't tell which one! I grabbed both eggs, put them back in the bator, poured in some warm water, and turned it back on! Thank goodness the Brinsea gets the temp up in 2 minutes. I can still hear the egg chirping. I have no idea if it will ever pip. I'm an idiot.

Sorry, that was funny. I hope all is ok. Sounds like something I would do. I'll keep reading to see. It's been a bad day, I really needed the laugh. tomorrow is day 21 for me. My 5 yr old grandson spent the night with me last night and at some point he adjusted the temp. It was at 90 F this morning. It could have been 105 so my fingers are crossed. Sue
