Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

Me and dblea put our 10 marans in this morning! This is our second time incubating and first time using the LG still air incubator! So for you experienced setter, when do you guys start turning eggs... I was told around day 3 or 4?
If the eggs aren't shipped, I usually turn on my turner after 24 hours. If the eggs are shipped, I wait until day 4 or 5. Most people don't wait quite that long to turn on the turner, but my best hatches with shipped eggs occurred when I waited longer. I've looked everywhere for the research article I read about this, but that was a year ago, and now I can't find it anywhere.

My last batch was local eggs and I started turning as soon as they were in the incubator. This is my first time on shipped eggs and I have read quite a few different opinions on the amount of days to wait before turning. I think Im going to wait 5 days and then plug in my turner. But I am new to this so Im not positive.
Watch your temps close for the 1st 24 hrs after turning on the turner. It can raise bator temp by about 2 degrees.

I have my eggs and we are almost ready to set. I am just waiting for the temperature in my incubator to stabilize. I may set tonight, but most likely tomorrow morning :). This is our first time incubating eggs. My family is really excited!

Thanks! I will watch for that.

You're welcome

Anyone else get their eggs set today? I know we have a few waiting til tomorrow...

Also all you that have shipped eggs have you decided at what day your gonna start turning? Ive read a few of the articles but wanted to know what everyone else decided on.

Hi everyone!Today I set 8 Silver Appleyard over Jumbo Pekin duck test eggs. I can't wait to see how they look!!!! Anyway good luck to everyone.
Welcome ChickenChaser. Duck eggs, thats exciting. Do you have a pic of the eggs set? Im always curious what other eggs look like besides chickens. Im waiting on my turkey hens to lay in the spring I cant wait to see them.

I've got mine set and slowly baking in the incubator. Only 9..sheesh, but they will be GREAT! About the turning....it's as confusing as ever. I think I'm going to split the difference and start turning on day 3. I tried to candle mine but the brown ones are so darned dark that I can't tell a thing about the air cell. I could see the air cell clearly in the Americauna eggs and they were in tact. I'm hoping that they all are based on that small sample.

I'm glad we have some duck eggs hatching as well. My next run will be a few Indian Runner Ducks if I can find some eggs to hatch out.

I'm interested in what you've decided about turning Chicken Pickin.
