Hatch-Along - Setting eggs this weekend (Jan5/6) WHOS WITH ME!

well we get to candle our 15 eggs tomorrow night hopefully we have some good development all we want is some hens and not all roosters. the only three we hatched all turned out to be boys and we couldnt keep them. and the last two sex links are leaving this weekend to a family from work. hoping for a blrw and golden lakenvelder hen maybe the third time hatching a blrw will be the time we get a hen.


on another note we went to lowes tonight to get stuff to start building our coop this weekend!! So Excited! My dad is helping us this time so i cant wait to get it started....


you know your girls are spoiled when they come to when you have food while they are free ranging and beg like a dog...which is what ours started doing to us

hoping for some girls for you! We got about 50/50 on Gracie's hatch. Still not positive on the Black Australorps though. They will crow pretty soon though, so will know for sure.

id be ok with 50 50 lol we have 24 eggs in the bator so we should get somee hens..that would be qquite disappointing if we didnt lol

we will definitely be posting pics of the coop we built our first one but its just not big enough now haha...we didnt know we would love having chickens so much. we just found out that there actually isnt a limit to how many hens you can have...which could be a bad thing having a limit we knew we couldnt get more but now we want more and more lol so hopefully the new coop will be done in a few weeks starting it on sunday. i think the dimensions are 6 x 4 /and 5 tall.

Plywood comes standard in 4x8 sheets... so you may want to just build it that to avoid all the cutting and waste, most likely wouldn't cost you any more than 4 extra 2x4 and and extra floor joist to up the size. LOL (not that I'm trying to encourage you to build for more birds or anything like that! )

hahah with the size of nicks yard i think 4 x 6 is all his parents would want lol if we had our oen place it would def be a lot bigger

A Salmon Faverolles just hatched!!!

I didn't think any of these were actually gonna make it -- I got a bunch of random hatching eggs from someone who had too many arrive all at one time.
I've got the oddest asortment of possiblilities of breeds I never even considered & a few I had thought were interesting.

This is Salmon Faverolles is on my really pretty but wouldn't have ever been able to justify buying w/o winning the lotto, so now I kinda feel like I just hit a scratch-off jackpot!!
& there maybe more hatchers overnight, plus more set for 4/11. The aircells all looked sloshy, nothing was very perfect in the bator so I didn't even post about setting these eggs.

This is the very best thing all week...wow, I can hear sudden peeping across the house, maybe another has hatched ???
Gotta run, must set up brooder!

Really will post pics this time (sold last 2 batches of my own eggs w/o taking photos).

I just hatched 1 quail, 1 silkie, 1 oegb, 3 poults (lost 2), 8 assorted chicks, 3 runners, 2 pekins & have 2 toulouse still trying to break out of the shells. More going into lockdown this afternoon but I think they are running behind. I have a bator temps are running way low on. 1 of the runners that hatched was an entire week late because of it. It was due for the Easter hatch & didn't hatch til Sun this weekend.

Found out a friend has a cabinet bator for sale & is willing to let me make payments on it. Hopefully I'll have it paid off within 2 months & be hatching everything in it. No more stupid styro bators!!!

I'm jealous! I love Salmon Faverolles!
