Hatch going wrong before I even put em in the bator!!!

This was what the person used but the eggs were too big for it. They were jumbo browns-not sure if that makes a difference. They didnt have any packing around the cartons and they were put in a capri sun box with some shredded paper around them. Not enough paper though cause they could move around inside the box.

Those cartons work well if you know how to use them, like quaillady said. I usually sell my eggs in assortments (colored pharaoh-sized birds and jumbo golds/browns), so the smaller eggs fit in those really well. I put the smaller eggs in the back near the fold and the larger eggs in the front near the opening so the carton doesn't have to be closed all the way.
I also take 3 sheets of toilet paper, folded in half midway then again folded lengthwise, and lay this across the tops of the eggs. This smooshes down in between the eggs to keep them from bumping each other and moving around. Then I use 1/2 sheet of bubble wrap and wrap the whole carton, after taping the carton closed with packing tape. Then the carton(s) is/are placed in a box filled with crumpled newspaper.

If I send a shipment of only eggs from the jumbos, I cut the carton in half on the fold so that the ones in the back don't get squished. Then I do the same as above to them.

The cartons keep them in 'one place', the packaging is what keeps them in one piece.

This is the ONLY way I've been sending coturnix eggs the past few years, my ebay feedback speaks for itself: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=friend-2-fowl&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller

: My bad, guess I have had a report of broken. The feedback on my ebay page from April 2, 2010 had a report of 1 broken...from 72. I'm sure I sent at least 80 eggs if not more.

Yeah, I seem to remember that too...

5 years of shipping eggs, not one broken egg, feedback only show last few months, but keep a 100% feedback. But know about shipping eggs , its all in the packaging. I also had many eggs shipped to me, still say Shelly way of quail eggs package best I have receive.

I would bet money I could ship 100 quail eggs without any being broken,

I always guaranteed, all eggs will be received unbroken.

19 may be a small number, but a single egg broken out of 19 batches sent is still really good in my book. I always assume that I'm going to lose some eggs in shipping: which is why it's nice to send extras.

Last year I ordered 1,000 quail eggs from someone and lost quite a few, but it was a good deal and I was able to cope with the losses. Last year I also ordered 500 quail eggs from someone in Georgia. Of those 500, two were broken. And that's because I dropped them while trying to put them in the racks for the incubator.

Both orders were sent in plastic cartons and I saved all of them to use, myself, when I ship out quail eggs. As far as I'm concerned, if 500 can be sent out with zero losses then for quail I see no reason why it can't be done. Quail eggs seem a little more "rubbery" and more resilient to cracking than chicken eggs.

As for the whole A&M argument, someone just needs to write up an article on the history of A&M quail and sticky it in this folder. Most people who call their quail A&M do so because they bought A&M eggs. What you are doing when you say "A&M don't exist" is effectly saying "You've been stiffed" and, regardless of whether it's true, no one likes to think they've been had. A blatantly obvious sticky would be a lot more polite than us constantly bringing up the "You've been stiffed, they're just white Coturnix" argument. Especially when we're mentioning it to people who are new to quail or new to BYC

I may just write something up, myself, and toss it onto my website. If I can get back into writing mode, anyway...I have a lot of articles I still need to write up for my poor not-even-half-finished site.

Urgh.

Didnt mean to start any arguments. I don't really mind one way or the other. I only bought them to breed with browns to try to make some tuxedos. That is how it's done right? Anyway I only paid .99 plus 11.00 shipping so I guess I got what I paid for. My main argument on the shipping was just that they werent packed very well after the plastic carton. At any rate jumbos or not they didnt fit in the carton very well. They were too big. If they are tougher to break they sure mustve went through the ringer at the post office. Good grief. Anyway I gave nuetral feedback instead of negative and explained I thought they couldve been packaged better. I usually wouldnt complain at all as I know it's a risk to get shipped eggs. Just was disappointed is all. May have to order from you again when the weather clears Jennifer. Wish I had just tossed these and waited for the Browns. NOw I'm running incubator and turner for 10 eggs that took a beating. Hope you have recovered from the flu bug.

True not how many shipped , only one from 19 shippment ,thats still great, plus if she is like me, bet not all sales where from ebay'

Myself I sold on ebay, eggbid, BYC,. and UPA, and others. I think the USPS gets blame , but if packed proper , you should not receive any broken eggs. I had people with holes knock in the box, still no eggs broken. I add extra , not for broken eggs, but because bad hatch rate on shipped eggs.

For a fact have not had ONE BROKEN EGG, IN 5 YEARS......Goose,peafowl, chicken, guineas, and pheasant eggs.

I even had post pics how i packed the eggs, but yet had people telling me how much better their way was, even when they had broken eggs, no more don't need the argument, when my way got eggs there 100% unbroken.

Show me where, in any of my posts, I've said 'have to'?? Unfortunately, I don't have a link to the old feedback forum on here, otherwise I'd have a lot more. Plus, don't be a jerk JJ, you know how often people leave feedback on ebay! Maybe 1 of 5 will leave ANY feedback.

Running an incubator for ten eggs isn't a big deal. You'll at least get a few whites out of the deal and can play around with those. If you're wanting Tuxedos then technically you only need one or two males to cover some Brown hens and you're set. At least you don't have ten eggs in a giant cabinet incubator

This next week looks like another exciting blizzard, but the local weathermen down here promised that after our next arctic blast the temperatures are going back up to normal. I'm happy to send some eggs out to you then. Or we -might- be in the Rolla area next Friday/Saturday. If you're nearby I can bring some eggs up with me.

Well you say your way is best and that you think we should do it. That is telling us to do it. You posted complaining about how we shouldn't tell people what to do, but in that post you told us we have to stop. Sorry, but you are getting all defensive and shooting yourself in the foot here. He is not a jerk, he is just tired of you telling him what to do and at the same time telling him not to tell people what they need to do.

If you come to rolla let me know. I would be glad to meet you for some eggs!!! Then I won't even have to worry about shipping! That would be great!!!
