This was what the person used but the eggs were too big for it. They were jumbo browns-not sure if that makes a difference. They didnt have any packing around the cartons and they were put in a capri sun box with some shredded paper around them. Not enough paper though cause they could move around inside the box.
Those cartons work well if you know how to use them, like quaillady said. I usually sell my eggs in assortments (colored pharaoh-sized birds and jumbo golds/browns), so the smaller eggs fit in those really well. I put the smaller eggs in the back near the fold and the larger eggs in the front near the opening so the carton doesn't have to be closed all the way.
I also take 3 sheets of toilet paper, folded in half midway then again folded lengthwise, and lay this across the tops of the eggs. This smooshes down in between the eggs to keep them from bumping each other and moving around. Then I use 1/2 sheet of bubble wrap and wrap the whole carton, after taping the carton closed with packing tape. Then the carton(s) is/are placed in a box filled with crumpled newspaper.
If I send a shipment of only eggs from the jumbos, I cut the carton in half on the fold so that the ones in the back don't get squished. Then I do the same as above to them.
The cartons keep them in 'one place', the packaging is what keeps them in one piece.
This is the ONLY way I've been sending coturnix eggs the past few years, my ebay feedback speaks for itself: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=friend-2-fowl&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller
ETA: My bad, guess I have had a report of broken. The feedback on my ebay page from April 2, 2010 had a report of 1 broken...from 72. I'm sure I sent at least 80 eggs if not more.
