Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

I candled a few today at day 17, and saw movement in all the ones I looked closely at. It's not the same as it was before - no swimming, more like twitching. I'm a little worried that some of the air sacs still look a little smaler than diagrams I've seen online. Some look textbook, at the fat end of the egg, slanting slightly downward, but some are still almost perfectly circular at the fat end. I'm hoping they'll do some more shrinking in the next 24 hours before I increase the humidity. Thanks for all the great info I'm finding here. That day 19 early pip teaches me why we up the humidity after 18 days.

Hello need some help! Been trying to figure out what to do . I have a pip from 11pm last night it started before day 18 lock down its now been 17 hrs with not much progress a hole about size of half a dime it makes some peeping noise but not a whole lot I guess. question should i help it ? would I hurt my other eggs ? maybe i could put some thing through vent hole to pull off some shell? So very bummed right now.

Stay calm! and don't help!! It is normal for a chick to take 24 hours from pip to zip! My last hatch, one took 31 hrs and was fine. Do not chip any of the shell away because the chick could bleed to death

Hatching is a long process and I know it is hard to be patient, and I'm sure you are worried, but trying to help too soon does more harm than good! HANG IN THERE! It will ok!

Thank you so much for all the advice.

She just hatched a few moments ago.

and while she was pushing all the other eggs around we now see we have another pip we couldnt see it cause it was pipping downward. Baby is strong and loud waiting on #2 egg. I think that the person who gave us the eggs might of had a hen sitting on them and thats why there hatching so early. They did look alittle further along when we candeled them but thought I might not be looking at them right being a newbie and all. My daughter just came and said we now have another pip.

#3 Thanks again for all the help.

Ok that means that the 13th was my day one and the 30th is my lockdown day!!! woooooo Ok so that day I take the turner out right? Lock them down and crank up the humidity?

I set my eggs on the morning of the 13th so that is my day one. You set your eggs in the afternoon of the 13th so your day one started on the 14th. My lockdown day is this Sunday and yours will be Monday. On lockdown, yes you take your turner out and up your humidity to 65%. Don't open your incubator until all your chicks have hatched! I fill the center water well then add water (a little at a time until the humidity comes up to 65%) to the outer water well by putting plastic airline fish tank tubing through the hole where your auto egg turner cord goes through. I stick the end of the tubing through the wire to keep the chicks from pulling it out. They get pretty frisky flopping around in there after they hatch!! I bought a turkey baster and attached the other end of the tubing to it on the outside of the incubator to pour the water through. This is so you can add water and keep your humidity at 65% without opening the incubator and risking your chicks getting shrink wrapped (when the membrane gets to dry and traps them in the egg and they can't hatch.) Won't be long now! SO eggciting!!!
