Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

I am using two hova bators and it worked great. Did you open any of the bad eggs to see if the chicks developed or not? Where are you getting your eggs from? How long did they sit befor you put in the bator?

It should like you have done everything right for a good hatch. Sounds like you may have had som bad eggs. How many eggs are you setting?

My Hovabator does not have a fan either.

The eggs came from my neighbor. I let the eggs set for 24 hours after we harvested them from the chickens whom had laid them. None of these eggs were shaken or stirred in any way. No peeps, pips, or anything yet. I am using a flashlight to look into the hatcher so I don't have to open it to check. The eggs were fertile since they did develop and her chickens are healthy so I don't know what is happening to them.

I set 18 eggs and have 15 in the hatcher. 1 was not fertile or quit at the very beginning and the other 2 had quit before day 10. I have not opened any of the eggs as of yet.

Sounds like everything is in order. If they don't hatch, open them up and see if they started developing. If they did and they stoped, look at how the chick is positioned. I had a couple dead in their egg and they were upside down. If there doesn't appear to be anything wrong, maybe you should try getting eggs from a different source to see if it makes a difference.

Just a thought. Did you wash the eggs before you sat them? If so, this could be the problem.

add 1 more chick to that and 2 zipped guineas. I'm afraid all i will get is 10 out of 15 chicks from my assorted but i will leave the eggs a little longer.

guineas are still not due until the 5th so who knows what all will hatch from them.

mine have hatched...
i have some 2 sumatras
some saipans and also some yokohamas..
the rest have yet to hatch,,
i couldnt get these new babies in hatching time
because it was during the night

How far away does the bulb in a brooder need to be inorder to get 95? I keep getting 126 to 130!!!!! its about 18 from the bottom of the brooder. I need to get this fixed!!!!

Mama took them on their first outing today. Hopefully she'll accept the 4 Delaware day-olds we're picking up tomorrow morning. I think she will, she's such a good mama.

Try raising it up to 24 inches. You will just have to keep raising it up until you get the temperature right. I am trying to remember how high I had mine when I used them. I don't use a regular heat lamp bulb anymore, too dangerous!! I use a ceramic bulb made for keeping reptiles warm. I start with a 100 watt ceramic bulb and after a couple of weeks change to a ceramic 60 watt bulb. Here is a picture for those who would like to purchase one from a pet store. They are pricey but last 5 years+ are so much safer so as not to burn down your house or burn your chicks!! I hang my ceramic bulb about 15 inches off the floor.

I now have 6 chicks hatched and the last egg still with just a pip. Had to help chick #6 out. It zipped half way and was too big to finish and had begun to shrink wrap!! Because two of these chicks (one died in shell half zipped) were too large to turn and zip, I'm thinking my humidity was too high during incubation even though I kept it at 45% so I'm thinking of dropping the humidity to 40% on the eggs that are due to hatch on the 10th.

So far 6 chicks, 4 more pips...boy, that little blond one with I suppose is wryneck..so sweet, I hope it pulls through. I am giving it poly sol vitamin droplets and just starting vitamin e capsule. I didn't know that little baby chicks could be so darn aggressive! I have 3 chipmunks with cheeks and goodness, they really nip/pull toes and peck wings/heads..already! The main culprit is in Chick Jail right now.

I have 3 more hatching from my small incucube. The other two I believe are not fertile.

I have my hovabator loaded down with 13 eggs and one just hatched whose whole clutch is due on Friday. It is yelling it's head off to the others to join the party.

On a quieter note....my girl, Parsley...laid her 3rd egg late this morning!!

Nope didn't wash the eggs. I will give them a few more days before I open one of them up as they still have time to hatch. I was mainly wondering about the air cell being on the little end instead of the large end like its supposed to. I have another person I can get eggs from so that is an option to see if its the eggs being bad.
