Hello
I’ve been watching a wild turkey hen sit on her eggs for the past few weeks close to our home (we live in a heavily wooded area), and having just incubated my first batch of chicks (chickens), I was getting a little attached and found myself peeking at her nest a couple of times a day (from a respectable distance). This morning I found the nest abandoned with the clutch of eggs cracked open. I assumed that predator got to the eggs, but upon breaking the news to my 8 year old daughter, she said, “what if they hatched?”
I examined the egg shells just now and the membranes seem to all still be in the shells, which I think is a bad sign. However, most of the eggs are cracked open in a way that could have been a hatch. There are a few little feathers under the cracked shells. Also, the tops of some of the shells are inside the bigger part of the shell. I’ll include some photos. Thanks for any help!
