Updates... the egg that has a detached air sac didn't grow any embryo at all... and one of the egg was infertile... so we're down to 7 eggs... I was upset that the largest egg had a detached air sac and didn't grow... I wanted big layers...

7 still a lot for one hen to keep safe. Don't get your self down there still hope for the others. I can't wait to see those others. Got a new SIM today soon as its charged and i get it connected I will send you my email and you can send pics I will then try to upload them. I am not that good with computers but my friend will help me. I was readind a post of yours on another thread about assisted hatching. Your very clever. I only assisted two silkies they were apparently good quality cos they had bumps on their heads and thats what was holding them back. My chick that hatched the other day still has bad leg not going to strap i have done that with other chicks in the past it hasnt worked. It happy and warm its just hobbling around.

I set almost 40 eggs yesterday! We have a small flock of bantam cochin/silkies, with a really wonderful rooster. They have been laying like crazy! The 40 eggs are all from this week; I think everyone laid an egg a day! Some of the hens are frizzles, so I hope we get some frizzle chicks. These guys will all be for sale, not keeping any this time. It'll be a nice bit of cash for the farm if we get a good hatch. Usually I let the hens do the work, as they are all such good mothers that I sell their chicks as brooders, but there were too many eggs this time and not enough broody hens. What a problem to have, ha!

They are all mutts, and certainly not type-y as cochins or as silkies, but they are great for setting on eggs and raising chicks, so docile and they lay well. We like Baxter a lot because he exhibits good rooster behavior - never aggressive, a light, pleasant crow, and he looks after his girls. When we toss out table scraps, he clucks to the hens and points out the best treats to them. I have even watched him bring bits of treats to them. For people wanting well behaved pets and brooders, they're awesome! I look forward to sharing their chicks with others.

He will also be building another coop tho because we want to raise chicks just for meat and those we would keep seperate and penned

lol another pen then another yes that exactly how it starts. What sort of meatbirds? One the local pastors raises cornish x you should see their legs they are drumsticks with heads and they grow fast when they are young. He told me they are artificial inseminated and they don't breed normally. I don't know if this is true. My hubby can do all that tho he worked on a farm that used fertile eggs for vaccines many moons ago.

your hens are cuties the chicks are going to be sooo different frizzles are sweet like silkies I don't keep frizzles maybe one-day tho lol. Your roo is lovely colour you should get some goreous colours n mixes. I sell mine a the produce and at breeder auctions. It covers some of the cost. I hatch for other people which covers the running of the incubator. pure breed fertile eggs achieve good price. I have people that buy for meat but they buy and take live birds. Egg and meat sales are strict in australia. But its ok to do stuff for own freezer we do sheep every winter mutton mainly tho lambs antics are funny even at eight months they still run round playing.

We actually went online to see what was the best meat birds, cornish x were at the top of the list but your husband is right, they are difficult to breed. Not sure, we may through trial and error just try and bring in some differant breeds and work at it ourselves...

Thats what I thought surely theres a way. The pastor did say maybe but they would have to be lean. The muscovies fill the frigde tho and breed so well. the saying should be breeds like ducks not rabbits. Lol. Light Sussex are not bad but they don't grow quick as cornish but the meat white. And plymouths are dark meat and take even longer great layers tho. The pastor got breeders of both these breeds off me a fews months ago I saw that he is already selling their chicks I think he will give the cornish up now.
