hatchers hatcherers..... who's expecting peeps on septembre 24th or so... :)

Yeah I do candle frequently with no problems.... I candled yesterday night and one of our eggs stopped developing on about day 6 or 7... so we're down to 6 eggs now.... all doing fine..... but I'm just worried about the chicks being killed from mite infestation... I'll try my best to get rid of these monsters.... I really have a phobia of them getting on us.... guuubhhhhh....:/

For candling I use my phone torch too... boy is it so bright.... and the torch it so small that you don't need to prepare a candling box... u can just put it direcly on the egg... that's the easiest fastest method I ever tried.... and you can just see clearly enough as if you're watching tv.... I even have a video of candling the eggs that were incubated under the pigeons and you can see the chicks playing around and rolling in tne egg.... and I even saw their toes from Inside the egg...

slide projector that's brilliantly ingenious. I use the phone torch that is when I actually do it and that mainly auction eggs I do. I trust most of my own pens and I put all eggs other people want done through to 28days. I send any unhatched egg with the owner on the day they pick their chicks up so they can open them. Majd I does candle and seems knowledgeable on the subject. my incubator would cool down too much if i tried to candle them all. I fill the mine to capicity it seems to run better.

Yes, it is an ingenious idea, one thatIi discovered while searching this site for candling ideas.... I'm telling ya, there are some brilliant people here and I dont have to spend hours trying to figure stuff out.

We have white faced tree ducks hatching today and usually hatch ducks into mid October. Some of the tree ducks and teal lay into late fall.

Good luck with your hatch jlord. I don't incubate ducks and I found brooding them artificially is just too messy. I have muscovies they are free to range and nest anywhere they want as I found penning them near impossible being they such good flyers. I don't keep track of their brooding dates but there's three sitting at the moment. Can you please post pic your ducks. Going to Google that breed not sure I have ever seen it. They certainly sound nice

Day 7 of incubation, candled all 33 eggs and out of those 24 have noticable movement and 2 are questionable 7 were either not fertile or had blood rings .......... Waiting for day 10 to candle the two in question
Not a bad start for my first time!!

yes that is good result even if the other two are duds. Its been one of those days here today the dog excaped terrorised a couple of pens and got in to a dark barr p/r broody she deserted the remaining eggs only two anyway. One hen is missing the corronation roo and p/r roo have no tail feathers. To top it off one my daughters budgies died and the horse crashed through a fence and took himself for a walk luckily not far but it does mean a weekend fencing tho and theres rain predicted. Today is day 11 for 25 of the eggs in my bator but with the day i have had not game to check them seems to be unlucky day lol

Oh sheesh, thats alot to deal with in one day, and yeah, I probably wouldnt be checking the eggs either!! After Hubby came home from work last night we headed out back to get some stuff outta the camper and secure it for the upcoming winter and overheard the neighbors talking about how one of their dogs got ahold of our chicks, looked around and sure enough one of the chicks was missing, found it on their side of the fence, dead,... Worked at resecuring the fence line and being fustrated because they could have just came and told us as neighbors do... :(
