This was my second order from McMurray. They have been wonderful. The chicks were vigorous and active upon arrival. All 26 chicks are now 14 weeks old, and beautiful and healthy. Only 1 male in my order of pullets, and it wasn't the rare and exotic (she is a white polish). He's a beautiful SSH, and he's sticking around.

9. Your customer review. Very pleased. Great-looking babies, lots of packing peanuts, very fast shipping. I ordered Monday, October 20, for shipping on October 29. Tuesday they emailed that my ship date had been changed to October 22. The babies were here October 23. Shipping was much cheaper than McMurray, and I was able to make a smaller order than McMurray. Still love McMurray and still might use them if I need to order 25 babies again, but Ideal was excellent in every way.

1. Name of hatchery: My Pet Chicken

2. Shipping Date: October 27, 2008
3. Date arrived. October 28, 2008
4. Average temperature around arrival: 60 degrees
5. Number of chickens bought: 9

Excellent customer service, chicks were shipped in a TLC package with warming pad as chicks were shipped from Connecticut. All chicks are happy, healthy and thriving.
I highly recommend My Pet Chicken and I plan on buying from them again.

I ordered 25 Rhode Island Reds from Double R. Discount, on Dec. 15th. They were shipped Dec. 29th and I received them Dec. 31st. I got the call from the post office at 7:00 am.

Avg. Temp was 40-50 at night and about 65 in daytime

All Chicks were alive and active at arrival only one seemed a little shell shocked but was fine by the next day. They are 9 days old and seem to be doing fantastic. I have not lost a single chick.

I can't comment on customer service except to say that I ordered the birds online, received an e-mail detailing the ship date and they arrived 3 days later.

Based upon this first experience I will definitely order from them again.
Tim

25 RIR straight run cost a total of $44.00 including shipping

9. Your customer review-
This hatchery doesn't charge for shipping and all my chicks arrived healthy and are near a year old now and still doing well.I had purchased all females and ended up with two roos anyhow. Not bad though.I would deffinitly recommend this hatchery for there quality and great price!!!

I have received orders from both McMurray and Ideal in the last week.

McMurray:
1. Name of hatchery: McMurray
2. Shipping Date: Feb. 15th
3. Date arrived: Feb. 16th (I did pick them up at the PO distribution center. Otherwise the delivery with holiday would have been Feb. 17th.
4. Average temperature arround arrival: 25 degrees
5. Number of chickens, ducks, geese, etc bought: 86 chickens.
6. Number dead at arrival: 0
7. Number dead within 2 days: 0
8. Number dead within a week: 3 chicks have died: x2 Black Stars and x1 Light Brahma. The last few days the rest seem pretty healthy. Since McMurray included x4 extras I'm still one ahead of my order.

9. Your customer review: I have been pleased with McMurray and their customer service. I called 6 or 7 times to add chicks to my order or to change vaccinations and they were nice each time. I had ordered 14 different varieties. All were included except the rose comb brown leghorns which they included a note on and said I would receive a refund.

They included 4 extras/packing peanuts: All of them from varieties I had ordered (x1 light brahma - rooster), (x1 buff Orpington - rooster), (x 1 Black Star - pullet), and (x1 RIR - Pullet).

Edit: 2/24/09: The rest of the chicks so far are doing well. Most of the chicks are growing fast and starting to feather out. The slowest growing of the group seems to be the Black Stars (lost x2). They are eating well, drinking, but not growing as much as the other chicks.

EDIT: 3/11/09: All of the remaining 83 chicks appear to be healthy and are doing well. They are 3 1/2 weeks old now.

IDEAL:
1. Name of hatchery:Ideal
2. Shipping Date: Feb. 18th
3. Date arrived: Feb. 19th
4. Average temperature arround arrival: 31 day/15 night.
5. Number of chickens, ducks, geese, etc bought: x6 geese, x7 ducks
6. Number dead at arrival: 0
7. Number dead within 2 days: 0
8. Number dead within a week: 0

9. Your customer review: IDEAL also had very helpful customer service folks. I also made several changes to my order and they were always nice about it.

I was surprised (in a good way) that my ducks and geese arrived in less than 24 hours after they were shipped (coming from Texas to Nebraska). I had thought they wouldn't arrive till Friday, but I called to let the PO know in case and also gave them my cell number incase I wasn't at home when they came.

There were no packing peanuts.

EDIT: 3/11/09 - All the geese and ducks are growing and doing well. They are 3 weeks old as of today. There growth is significantly faster than the chickens (though the chickens are feathering out well and the waterfowl are just starting to grow some quills).

7. Number dead within 2 days. just the one on arrival

customer review: Very active and cute as buttons. At 3.5 weeks found 2 of my 7 BR are Roos. Can't tell with my 5 EEs yet or my 2 RIRs. No problem with the refund on the 1st dead chick, didn't advise them on the second or the Roos. (not to worried about the roos unless i start getting more! Already have to pick between Edward(previously Elizabeth) and Doodle-do who will stick around and who will be enchaladas.)
