9. Your customer review. The chicks all looked healthy when they arrived. They were kept at 95 degrees according to my thermometer... I think they caught something right away and I should have been giving them antibiotics and milk from day one. If I had done that, I don't think I would have lost any. They were all beautiful and the remaining 15 are all large and growing like crazy. I'll probably use them again but I think I'll order specifics next time.. I did the Rainbow layers and they sent mostly Barred Rocks and RIRs.

9. Your customer review.
Overall, I was pleased with my dealing with Cackle Hatchery. I didn't receive my shipping date confirmation within 10 business days as they had said, so I tried calling them. Their line was always busy and I wasn't able to get a hold of them - though I had read on their website that they were extremely busy so I wasn't too worried, just impatient.

And, sure enough, my confirmation came in the mail 14 business days after placing my order.

The chicks arrived the day after they were shipped with one dead on arrival. Cackle marked the cockerels which was nice, especially considering that I hadn't asked them to. They marked the SL purple and the GL red. The chicks are very healthy, growing and feathering out nicely, and extremely energetic. They were two weeks old yesterday, and so far I've had no losses. (yay!) They are trying to fly like crazy though - I have to work hard to keep them from escaping from the brooder while taking care of them!

9. Your customer review.
Excellent - would buy from again but they upped their min quantities and shipping. Breeds and sex were exactly what we ordered and everyone has been very healthy.

I also did a pickup at Meyer last Monday, 6/9. Their customer service was excellent and the chicks are very healthy and thriving. No problems whatsoever.

1. Ideal
2. Wednesday June 11
3. Thursday morning June 12
4. somewhere around 85
5. I purchased 10 silkies and got 11 packing peanuts also

6. None
7. None
8. hasnt been a week yet

9. I would order from Ideal again.. I just love my silkie chicks, and I asked for all cochin packing peanuts, so I would have all different colors to chose from to go with my standard cochin girls, I really didnt know they were going to 11 of them tho..

I live in the same city as Cackle Hatchery, and was considering becoming a breeder for them this year but I declined. They set a very high standard and only send out usually the best chicks they have. I can't complain i bought a variety and got all that i wanted at a resonable price.

1. Name of hatchery. Sand Hill Preservation Center (is it a hatchery? Yes and no. Close enough, IMO).
2. Shipping Date. June 3rd
3. Date arrived. June 5th
4. Average temperature arround arrival. Daytime temps were in the 80s F
5. Number of chickens, ducks, geese, etc bought. Chickens - 20 Delawares, 5 Buff Brahma Bantams.
6. Number dead at arrival. NONE were dead or sick on arrival.
7. Number dead within 2 days. NONE were dead or sick at 2 days.
8. Number dead within a week. NONE were dead then or now.

9. Your customer review. I was impressed with Sand Hill overall. Sure, it took months to get my birds after sending in my order, but I knew about the backlog going in. The Delaware chicks were particularly good quality, healthy chicks. The bantams were more of a motley crew, unfortunately, but all were healthy. I can recommend Sand Hill as a source for Delawares only.

Edited for details.

We've recently received two orders.

1. Name of hatchery. McMurray
2. Shipping Date. unknown (not on paperwork)
3. Date arrived. May 5 2008
4. Average temperature arround arrival. 40-60 F (had snowed while in shipment)
5. Number of chickens, . 26
6. Number dead at arrival. 0
7. Number dead within 2 days. 1 (weak on arrival, drowned that evening)
8. Number dead within a week. 0
9. Your customer review. Rainbow Layers. Our outside temps were cold. It was difficult to keep the brooder a constant temp. One additional chick (barred rock) never grew, eventually it also drowned in the waterer (typical waterer, never had this problem before - I think when they get weak they fall over into the waterer and can't get up)

McMurray is my all time favorite. I've never had a problem with them in any of my orders. I rarely get any males, and never more than one an order (so he might be the 'exotic chick).

This rainbow assortment was great! NO sexlinks or RIRs!! (yippee!) I still haven't been able to figure out exactly what everyone is but it is so nice to have such a variety. Cochins, brahmas, EEs, Lakenvelders, Polish, Buttercups, Orps, Dark Cornish, wyandottes, silver leghorns, etc.

I'd hoped to have alot of duplicates to sell, now I feel like I'll end up keeping most of them.

One Rooster - a buttercup (but there is a buttercup female too so maybe we'll raise some chicks!)

9. Your customer review. I only order from Ideal when they have something McMurray doesn't. Last year I ordered 25 of their dark egg layer asst. I ended up with two roosters and 3 yellow legged Marans. The eggs are darker than the ones my regular brown egg layers produce but not much. This year I ordered Black Aust., ameraucanas, spangled Russian Orloffs, Red Chanteclers and ass't silkies.

Things I like about Ideal - they list how many of each they send (makes it easier to figure out what you have when you get ass'ts). They called to let me know they were sending them but also to ask if they could substitute a red chantecler roo for a partridge.

But I've never been happy since the Marans came with yellow legs and the other chicks, there were two roosters and that whole order still acts strange. I'm still wondering why my red chanteclers are white with orangey stripes on their wings (if anyone knows what one should look like - let me know, they aren't posted anywhere since it turns out the color isn't accepted.
