hatching 10/19 - 10/20 ????

i have a plan for mine and was wondering if any of you have ever done it.....i have 9 d'uccleeggs incubating and they will be on day 4 when i go on lockdown. my plan is to take all of the racks out of the bator except the 2 holding my d'uccle eggs. leave the d'uccle in the turner and put the mutts (due monday) on shelf liner above the screen with a cup of water to increase the humidity so i won't have to open the bator at all until after they all hatch. do yall think this will work?

I'm not sure

This is my first time hatching, and I'm not sure how that would work out. Wish I could offer ya more info.

Ok, it's day 18. I took the eggs out of turner, and laid them on their sides. One blue egg was moving in the turner before I took them out

I didn't bother to candle them since I had done it the day before. I added water where I was informed to put the water. They haven't had to use sponges when they use the incubator, but I have some just in case.

So, now I just need to keep busy, and keep an eye on the humidity I guess. Oh, and keep my fingers crossed.

Now, I'm nervous!

I am sure everything will be alright Bluemoon. i will keep my fingers crossed for you and be waiting for updates and pictures. my bator goes on lockdown tomorrow night. i went ahead and got everything set up yesterday and got the temp and humidity regulated again now all i have to do before lockdown is add water and tape it shut (to prevent the kids from opening it). oh man i have a feeling this is going to be a very very long weekend.

We are heading into lockdown!!! I will do mine tonight after I get home. I took a peek at my sluggish egg last night and it was moving

I also have another one that the air cell has pulled away in one spot but the chick is still alive

Bluemoon ~ If your humidity went up to where it needed to be I'm sure it will be OK. This is so nerve wracking

Monita ~ This is only my 2nd hatch and I have to take the entire turner out in mine because it is an older style. If I could I would probably try a split hatch myself. I am sooo tempted. I think they will probably have plenty of time to evaporate after your 1st hatch is over and the humidity is lowered. Good luck!

I think I am driving hubby nuts cause I keep making him look at the babies move in the shell. He's like yeah, whatever

Come Sunday, he isn't going to be able to stay away from the bator though

lol. your hubby sounds like my entire family. lol they are all sick of hearing me talk about chickens and looking at my eggs as well as every pic posted on this website...lol.

Morning, all! So exciting, nearing the home stretch!

Don't worry about your DHs - they get used to hearing all the chicken talk after awhile....gosh, mine doens't even roll his eyes any more!

I believe I'm supposed to keep the humidity between 60 - 70% It's between that now, but I had to fiddle with it earlier. The troughs weren't all the way full, and it wasn't going past 53%. I shined a flashlight in there, and realized that was the problem. I added some water to both troughs so they are all the way filled. The humidity is at 65%. The temp is still a little low, but that was because I had to add more water.

I'm going to visit the neighbor soon, and have some coffee so I don't worry about having to open the incubator to add some water.

I also have to clean out the brooder, and plug it in to make sure I get the temp in that all steady.

Busy work, I need busy work.
