Hatching 11-13-09..anyone else?

5 hatched, at least 2 more pipped of the 8!

I'm going to move them to the floor tonight in a dog x-pen with chick starter and water - the first one is already a wee bit active, and I don't want him falling out!

My wire dog crate still has chicks in it (also in the coop), which I'm slowly introducing to the flock... got started a bit late. Oops.

Does your dog crate have a floor in it? They will still need somewhere soft to be, either on shavings or straw. If you do the crate you can still put a little box with something soft in it for them.

Congrats on the new babies! Mine are offically on lockdown and temp is staying as well as humidity,..keeping my fingers crossed!

Well, I took a chance and moved the nest. The box is mounted to the wall, so couldn't just move it... so piled some clean shavings in an old recycling bin and plopped the babies and mama into it. There are 2 eggs that have pipped, and one with nothing yet, but I though I heard a chirp, so we'll see. I was just afraid the babies would fall out. Mama seems thrilled to have water and chick starter within reach, as she went for it right away. She keeps stuffing chicks back under and they keep poking out! Too cute!

Hopefully I didn't mess up the pipping/zipping action, but the chicks are kicking the eggs around enough that I figure it should be ok. And it's getting dark, and everyone else is roosting, so I'll (try to) resist temptation and just check them in the morning.

SIX! Woo-hoo!

(I know I said I wasn't going to go look again. And it's raining. I suppose you could technically say that it's hurricaining, as this rain happens to have a name... but anyway, there are SIX now! I am so hooked...)

Come on last little two!

(And no, I'm NOT going to buy an incubator. But I might buy eggs next time someone goes broody!)
