Hatching double yolk eggs

Sorry the chick didn't make it, I had subscribed and checked back every now and again.. I haven't tried to incubate a double yolker but I might this next year, Like you, I have noticed in many of my doubles one yolk fertile and the other not. I believe that can be a big enough of an issue I just haven't tried.

Thanks for the update and the photo's, as sad as it is they are helpful!

Thanks for sharing your journey.
It was educational but it reinforces my belief that one shouldn't try to incubate double yolked eggs. Enjoy them for breakfast.
Mammals can have multiple births because the abdomen can expand. Things that come from eggs can't. There's only so much room and nutrition in the egg and it's not enough for 2. Even in the extremely rare case that they would both develop and, by some miracle, actually hatch, they likely won't be as healthy as other chicks.

While I'm on the subject. It's not a good idea to incubate pullet eggs either. Not enough space or nutrition. Exercise patience and wait for the eggs to reach full size to assure big healthy chicks.

This is just my point of view and you can take it with a grain of salt - or several grains on your fried double yolked eggs.

Yes you are right double eggs should not be incubated BUT you never learn untill you try ...

And thanks for all the nice comment Backyard chicken is awesome !!!!
