It's still breathing so that's good... hind end is still in the bottom of the shell. So exhausted it's just resting I guess. I've never seen any rest this much after hatching... usually they are running all over wet and messy.
Just got up and looked in the bator. It's out of the shell and looking GOOD! YEAH! I at least got one of the six to hatch after more than a week in transit from Michigan to AZ!!!
I'm guessing it was a Delaware roo X (over) the Light Brown Leghorn hen!... it's pretty light... and probably a roo too! Either way we are naming him DOLLY from MICHIGAN!
Once it's completely all fuzzy, I'll candle the ducks and remove all of the rest of the dead chicken eggs.
There was still nothing going on with mine this morning. I thought I heard a weak little peep yesterday after church, but I wasn't sure and I haven't heard anything since.
Good luck Beth. I gotta tell you all baby chicks are beautiful, but this little guy is adorable. I'll get a pic and post it tonight. My little girl wanted to hold it this morning... she'd washed her hands and all... I'm gonna wait a day or so, it was real struggle for this little guy to get out.
Here is the only one I was able to get to hatch from Miss Jaynes eggs but it is a real keeper and I'm praying it's a pullet!!!
Delaware roo X Brown Leghorn hen... "Here's Dolly from Michigan!"
and another...
I really didn't think it would make it for a while yesterday, but by 5 AM it was totally out of the shell and cheeping up a storm.
Here is a group shot of him with two W/BW Ameraucanas and a Buff Ameraucana.
now the bad news.
Candled the duck eggs. (First time) One looked like it had developed and then quit. The others were all scrambled. Post office didn't do us any favors. So we are going to cherish Dolly from Michigan and keep you informed of it's progress. If it's a roo, I'm going to keep it and put it with my white leghorns (3) and my light brown leghorn and see what we get out of them.
Miss Jayne. THANK YOU AGAIN for your sweet kindness!
