Shrink wrapping is actually a lot less common than people think. There should be pretty much no chance of it occurring until a baby pips / until you make a safety hole.
And, as long as you keep the humidity high and moisten the membrane during an assist, babies should be okay.

That’s good to hear! On the off chance it does happen, what should I look for?

Day 23 & 24!!!

I noticed last night that the eggs wiggle sometimes, especially the call egg. I thought I was imagining it but when I checked this morning, I made tapping noises and the call egg wiggled. It’s very mild and hard to catch, but still cool!

It’s when the baby is ready to hatch and will punch a circular hole in the shell & push out. Zip like a zipper, they’ll “unzip” the eggshell.

Day 24 & 25!!

Call duck is pretty active this morning. Is this an internal pip? Or is it getting ready to internally pip?

Our egg has wiggled a little bit this morning, but nothing while candling. I know call ducks usually come sooner than normal ducks, so I’m content.

When should I take the auto turner out?

Fyi, the egg was held flat (like in the incubator) and I took the video from underneath so it wasn’t disturbed.

I candled again before I left for work incase it was a pip so I could make a safety hole (I work 12hr shifts so I didn’t want to risk waiting)

No, not an internal pip, but some nice shadowing. You can also listen for an internal pip. Hold the egg up to your ear, tap on the shell gently with your finger, and listen for a tapping sound or the baby peeping.

Safety holes don’t need to be put in right away, don’t worry too much!!

You could take out the auto turner now if you’d like, or wait for the first internal pip.
