Basque owners!!! Have you seen a correlation between coloring and sex in week-old chicks? I'd swear I have a male and a female -- "she" is pretty much all cream with a few slightly reddish areas. "He" is cream with dark splotches on wings and back and that tell-tale little serration along the top of "his" beak, which "she" is completely lacking.

I would make dividers out of the plastic mesh from the craft store that people sew patterns with yarn on? do you know what I am talking about?

yes, and what is totally ironic is that I just donated a bunch of craft junk - including a couple sheets of the stuff to the kids school.

They are in the mail!! These are the actual birds. I hope they arrive safe.. What should I name them?? Question 2 - I put 21 S.Buttercup in lock down yesterday morning. Today there is an unpleasant smell. I have never had this happen before and do not know what I should do??

Is there anyone who can give me advice on the smelly incubator?

So it's better to open the incubator even though it is in lock down than to leave the egg in. I am assuming it is an egg.....

Yep, if there is a stink bomb waiting to explode you need to open the bator and find it. Have a bag ready to place it in and tie shut

It's a risk either way. Either the egg explodes or possibly causes infection of the other chicks or you risk shrink wrapping. Get the humidity back up asap, especially if there are pips in there, but the risk is higher to leave it in there.
