Yeah, Mrs. Whatsit is a mystery :) I've got a list of potential dads but no idea what her mom is. So a mystery she can remain!

This one, though, is from crazypetlady -- any idea what it is? It's definitely a smaller bird, not serama-small but small. This is just shy of three weeks:

Dark grayish chest and underbelly, light feathering on the legs... Anyone know? They're cute as a button!

my guy doesn't LOOK like he's doing his job...but I've figured out he is just really discrete. 9 out of 10 so far developed. not bad for a new guy!

our last Roo woo'ed like a caveman. it was OBVIOUS he was doing his job.

LOL! Yeah, I have to admit, that's one more thing I like about my CM roo. Dude is on and off in about six seconds. I don't think the girls even bother picking their heads up from their food, lol! And every single egg I've cracked has been fertilized. Every one. Quick and efficient, he is!

ok, so I just ordered 100 bantam chicks from Ideal. Y'all really are bad people. But it is for 3 people.... Nicole being one of those 3 people!!

At least you're sharing.

I'm on day 20 today....and not a pip. My nighttime temps drop to around 96 each night and come up again once I get up and get them going. I know that's slowing them down some. I'm wondering if I should be setting my phone alarm to get up every few hours to make a temp adjustment, but afraid then I'll REALLY be an addict! LOL

Happy Saturday everyone!

Here's an interesting question: which comes first, the egg or the rooster? My experimental cross-breed will be five months old on Tuesday. She hasn't given me any pullet eggs yet (at least not that I've found) although she has been checking out the nest box occasionally, and roosting more and more often with the "big" girls over the past few weeks. I was out spreading new bedding and just watched her get bred by the roo. (Over in the blink of an eye -- you really gotta be looking at just the right time!) So I guess they will breed before laying? Who knew?

My columbians are starting to hang and forage more and more with the big hens, too -- I'm expecting them to start within a month as well. Pretty girls!
