I swear the men in my family are frickin' idiots! I asked a simple thing of DS. I even paid him to do it. I needed a gate for another chicken run. How hard can that be? Cut four measured pieces of 2 x 3s, screw them together into a rectagular shape, cover with welded wire, add one diagonal piece to keep gate from sagging, attach to wall with hinges. Make it exacly like one of the three gates I already have. Same size. I already have a piece of welded wire just the right size, might need to be trimmed to fit. Simple, simple, simple. I've been waiting two weeks for my gate. First DS & DH both say my piece of welded wire won't fit, it's not wide enough. Yes it is. No it's not. Did you check it? Yes. Then it fits, I know it fits, I already had it over the opening and the gate must be smaller than the opening. It fits. No it doesn't. I'm quite confused but I tell them to go ahead and use chicken wire then. So DS runs the chicken wire vertically. It's not wide enough for the gate either. So he just runs a second strip overlapping the first. Staples top, bottom, and one edge but not the other. It looks like ****, isn't stretched, and wouldn't keep nothin' out if it pushed up against the unattached vertical edge. Sigh. So I spent this the morning pulling staples to rotate the wire and staple all four sides. I ended up wasting about four feet of wire (in two pieces.) (And yes I know not to use staples but I don't have a problem with that here.) I get this gate done and take it out to hang it and it's six inches too wide! It won't fit the opening. I called DH (who's at Lowes getting me more chicken supplies) and he says yes, he was supervising, why?. Ugh!! Now I still need a gate. Next week it might be funny. Um, no, I doubt it, not funny.

George likes the birds, but won't admit it. He justbrought his car back from the car wash. Within half an hour, the turkey was perched on the hood with muddy foot prints all over it. This is a very well cared for camero too!

My husband hates the birds with a passion... Until I make money off them. Example: beginning of the month I hatched out 11 black jersey giant chicks. When I bought them he was like "why the hell are you buying more eggs??" Then I ended up selling the chicks for $40. The guy who bought them also said if I hatch any more serious egg layers to call him, and he'd buy them all. So, what does my husband say??? Oh, you should hatch a couple dozen and sell them to him... I just give him a look.
:smack
Same type of thing with the quail. Beginning of December he must have gone out and counted the quail, and he starts fuming about he refuses to pay for food for 40 some quail. This month I cut my total feed bill for all poultry down to maybe $30 a month due to fodder and free range, he still complains... Now that I have sold some eggs he's like "cool"

My husband in a round about way got me started on them. The neighbors chickens kept coming over into our yard, and he said he was going to keep them the next time it happened. What I heard was...You can have chickens! However, he pretty much hated them. Always complaining, now he is my ex-husband.

I just sent three lambs to freezer camp this week. And replaced them with bottle calves. Next year it's baby beef for the freezer!

I will remember to watch Ideals specials. They are my go-to place to order hatchery birds. But no bantams and no duckkies.

Last year DH sent our two rams to auction because they had a tendency towards parrot-mouth. He didn't think our young ram was old enough to take care of things this year. The twin lambs born last night proved him otherwise. Hmmmm, last year we had about 16 lambs born, not sure I'm ready for an explosion this year. Of course, last year was complicated by a bottle lamb.

I'm so glad my DH doesn't care. Heck, I catch him cruising CL looking at chickens and stuff. He's an enabler. He's the reason I have the NN Easter eggers now.

This is my DH to the nth degree!

I went to HD and bought everything I needed. I designed/built the first gate, DH built the next 13. The gates he originally built were lower than my head (F%&*(*&*) and had so many sharp daggers sticking out (F$*^*($^%^)
