Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Here are pics from my first swap eggs, pretty good hatch for shipped eggs! Out of 10 eggs at lockdown I got 5 really healthy chick and one that died about 12 hours after hatching and one that I have been nursing trying to figure out what to do since she has splayed legs and curled toes so I call her Forrest Gump since she is done up in a hobble and has shoes on to try and straighten her toes, I have her in a rigged chicken sling to keep her from just laying on her back which is what she does if she is not in her sling...she is chirpy and lively so I don't have the heart to cull her.

This is forrest gump, she cant stand and always keeps her head to the side as if her muscles developed wrong.

Not sure what is going on with the neck thing, but I use vet wrap on their legs and vet wrap to make shoes to keep the toes straight. After that I have put the worst ones in a small bottle like a water bottle with the top cut off. I wrap them in a wash rag or paper towels to make sure they can't move but are up right in the cup. I put them back in the hatcher for a day or two and take them out ever day to see if they can walk yet. When they can walk with the vet wrap on I put them in the brooder. If after 3 days they are not able to walk..... they probably will not ever walk.

I have a couple different olive egger project in the works

Project #1: Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca. Chicks are auto sexing. My oldest are 4.5 months so still not sure if their eggs will be true olive

Project #3 Lavender Ameraucana X Black Eng. Orp split lavender. eggs are expected to be green not olive. I just hatched 2/2 for the first eggs set and the babies are black. Bummer... I was so hoping for Lavender, but who knows maybe some chicks will be Lav. just have not hatched enough to know ratio. My roo has the fluffiest butt ever and the chicks should be pretty cool regardless of color.

Project #3 OE hen (Amer. X BCM) this girl lays a gorgeous dark olive egg. I have her in with my Double Laced Blue Barnie rooster. The offspring should lay a dark olive egg with a hint of brown.

Just bought 3 Tolbunt polish and 1 basque. They are 3 weeks old. Is there a way to sex tolbunt at this age? I know the basque is a female. He threw in a pumpkin husley roo too. So hopefully will have tolbunts in the spring. My buff laced polish just started laying yesterday. So I am going to incubate a few before I offer them on the swap.
