Got eggs to the PO yesterday to nankanich and tazcat. Sending bhep and chickenbelle tomorrow and thurs.

DS seemed so much better yesterday and has seemed to relapse a tad today. He's not as bad as he was but still not right. DD is now showing signs of the funk. I'm just concerned because she's not really eating. She breastfeeds a bit and drinks juice but not so much on the solids se usually plows. I know its probably because she's not feeling well. It's just hard to not feel concerned.
Hey, did you ever get the test results back, or did I miss that post somehow? Last I heard, they were holding results hostage until someone paid for additional unordered tests.

Heh - I feel bad for whining about our upcoming week:

As for hatcheries - I've been hearing a lot of negatives. I've been drawing up plans for expanding my little flock once I get these gals fully settled (two different areas). I have a mix of gals, right now - Barred Rocks, Ameraucanas, Black Australorps and Silver Laced Wyandottes. It's easy to find these kinds all around. And, poor things, they are the ones getting to experience my fumbling as I work at getting things just right. They are very forgiving, though

The breed I'm looking to actually take on as my main flock is Dorkings. I love the couple I've been able to handle; but, all the places I've found so far that provide them seem to be hatcheries...Or, the one or two personal breeders I've found (also quite a ways away) whose practices seem a little too shaky for me to be comfortable. I understand why hatcheries are not a good thing; but, are there some that are actually decent?

Got silver penciled rock eggs from die fly ranch in CA first thing at the po this morning and then I got to work and had a tracking # from GFF for choc wyandotte eggs so had to go back to the po at 10 am when the express mail truck got there. Was very worried because of the weather here but, hopefully all will be ok.

I absolutely LOVE dorkings. and am getting into them as well. but I lost my roo a couple of months ago.

kind of a set-back. my hens had just started laying, too. I did hatch out one little egg and it was a pullet...so he will live on in his daughter

They are the friendliest, most inquisitive and non-flighty chicken I have had so far. but from what I have heard they have lost alot of the size they used to have.

they are hard to find good specimens of, if you are looking for show quality chickens. Sandhill, Yellowhouse Farm and Dick Horstman are the people I know of who aren't Hatchery, and depending on what coloring you want. I am sure there are others, too.

Glad to meet another Dorking lover!!!!

Weather has been nasty here. Today I learned that "freezing rain" is a literal statement. There is a quarter inch of ice everywhere. I have never had to chip ice off of my car in order to get into it.

so, I should know in a week if my gold laced and buff laced brahmas are good to go for eggs. They started laying last week and I already have 2 in the incubator- more to go in tonight!! very excited!

The other day (yesterday?) my finger froze to the lock on the bird door! Today we had WIND coming through the basement door, not just a little leak either, so I duct taped the seams. The house warmed up a few degrees after that!
I have to get more candle jars to fill some swaps and fill the store. They're out of soap and candles and I have several checks to pick up. :) That bit of money will be nice to have. I'm thankful for the store AND instant home depositing of checks!
