Also.... just wondering... I only have one incubator and will be getting some Marans eggs with some SFH eggs, I was planning on dry incubating the Marans, will that be a problem for the SFH?? It seems from reading in the SFH thread that they kind of like the dry incubating, too.... thoughts??

That is your 6th swap right ? Then you are good to go. Cleared. :D 1 more then on your own!

As far as dry incubation .... I am actually trying that. I have 2 going... One dry and 1 not... We will see

The one time I tried to incubate them together, I had a good SFH hatch, but not so great BCM hatch. They lose weight at different rates. I personally will not incubate them together again. I have not tried the dry incubation method, but my SFH hatched well with 35-40% initial humidity, and 65% at lockdown.

Walli, what kind of incubator do you have?
I just have small ones, but kinda want to ask for an upgrade as a Christmas present... I think madamwlf recommended a Dickie , that's the only one that I remembered being mentioned

I have a Brinsea Octo 20 Advance with the humidity pump. I, too, have been thinking about looking for a larger one for spring. (don't tell DH

) I got the humidity pump last Christmas, so I didn't have it for my first few hatches, including my SFH. Dickie seems to be well liked.

I also have a Dickey. Love it ! I dry incubate everything. All my eggs incubate together in the Dickey. Then I hatch in either my Genesis 1588 or 2 Brinsea ECO 20 (without the humidity pump) sometimes all three . Honestly, I do not even use a hydrometer, the 1588 has one built in but I don't stress on the readings. I just fill the chambers and put the eggs in. I like to separate some breeds when hatching so I don't mix them up.

I have excellent results this way.
