I have never nor will I ever turn a profit on this chicken adventure! Cost of buildings and coops so far...4000$ ish lights...heaters...feeders...waterers...brooders...bedding...the list goes on..oh dang electric fencing 1500$ so far with more getting ordered...there have been times where it seems and feel like profit is being made but then I wake up and have to face reality! Lol as long as they pay for their feed...Ill be more than happy to spoul and love them with everything else! Haha

I maybe have about $1500 total in my pens. I built most of them with PALLETS. Fencing, hardware cloth, chicken wire, plastic netting, and barrels, that maybe about all I had to really buy. May not even be that much. As with most business there is the initial start up costs and I think I am over most of that.... unless I build more pens.......

Ah well last year I saved MY chicken earnings to buy my SLBs a new coop ...A shed I ordered 8x14 from the amish...total cost with shipping on A trailer a buddy picked up for me 1000$ so what happened the ay after it arrived?....fencing went up and my husband moved his frikking Tolbunts in it! Now i had to start saving all over for this year! But this time WE HAD A NICE TALK and it was decided to sell a few batches of his Tolbunt eggs to help recoup some of MY $ to buy another one and more electric fencing!

I can't remember who posted on the Flexi Watt, was it Donna? I'm going to try to resurrect a home made cabinet style hatching box. How much Fex Watt do I need? I found it at incubatorwharehouse.com. The website says it's designed to get an area warm but not hot. Is there a preferred orientation for installation? Do I line the walls, or line the floor? I think the real problem with my hatching box is a faulty thermostat so I'm also replacing that, but I thought the Flex Watt would provide a more constant heat source rather than having the light bulb contantly clicking on and off. Or have I lost my mind?

I originally used flex watt, scratch grain and a dimmer inside of a styrofoam box for an incubator for my first ever eggs. Got 180 eggs to lock down when it spiked and fried everyone. I used it round the sides, then used the scratch grain to help keep it up, provide a heat rock type of deal, etc. So, with an actual thermostat, I'd say to put it around the sides and you'd have a viable bator.
