I already have 3 hens growing out. My one rooster had to be culled due to lameness.
My first batch of NJ I hatched - 11 of 12 hatched and ALL WERE GIRLS. Second batch 5 out of 7 ALL WERE BOYS - both from different parents so I could pair them up. How LUCKY was that!!
(Now no one is cooperating - I did go to the little zip ties and am able to keep everyone recorded so I at least know what I have) I did not know how difficult it was going to be to keep all breeds cataloged and tagged so I would know which ones I got from whom so I could order from another source to have breeding pairs etc... There's a lot to being a "hobby farmer" if you want to do it right. As a teacher I always thought I was organized. Then I got chickens......
