Sad today. I let my RIR's out ot range yesterday. They decided to investigate the pig pen. The pigs caught and ate one of them. I saw the pigs chasing them because we were building a transport pen to take them to butcher. I went running (not that I know what I could have done), but it was too late by the time I got there. The others escaped. These were by far my favorite chicks.

Pigs can be deadly. Our pigs ate through a flock of Burbon Red's. Really made me mad and upset. I love Turkeys, such fun fowl.

Anyone else have people think you are odd for wanting chickens, geese for holidays or better yet gift cards to building supply stores? I feel like its normal lol

I think my family thinks its really cool! Haha, and it makes it real easy for shopping. Only problem I have is my dad doesn't ask, and doesn't pick up on hints... Like I mentioned I was getting gc to lowes from my mom to build coops, and that's what I asked for, and he sent me a gc to best buy hahaha. Gotta love him.
My birthday is next week... So I am hoping I will be getting some cash to get some more dog kennel panels for my runs e

Looking for a little advice, please. My splash Orp roo has very raspy breathing. He is shaking his head a lot, too. I have pulled him in the house, along with his favorite girl, and I bought Vet Rx today. I have mixed it and twice put some in his nostrils, on his head, and under his wings per the instructions. Tonight I put a few drops straight down his throat, too. Is there anything else I can/should be doing to help him clear up? Thanks in advance for any help.

do you use acv in the water? If not, it would be a good idea- when birds are sick I will used 3-4tbsp vinegar per 1 gallon of water. ACV really works wonders.

Anyone interested in Flyties?

I have some Ohiki x Flyties that I got from Onagadori last year, will be separating them out for breeding in a few weeks. They are Bantams chickens that are super super soft because they have no shafts in their feathers. Roosters grow these really LONG saddles that are used to tie fly's for fishing.

Will be offering them soon in my swaps

I'm not interested, but only because I am starting to panic about all my different breeds coming in, but my Mom's Fiancee' would be over the moon to get some!!!!! hmmm.... they would make an excellent late engagement gift!!!

Our oldest nanny is very pregnant, she is are wide as she is long at this point

OMG remind me never to get pigs!

After seeing what a pig will do to a chicken, I can easily believe the stories you hear about the old farmer tripping and falling or having a heart attack in the hog pen and the only evidence left being the false teeth or boots. They can have everything, including paws, gone in less that two minutes. It is kind of scary to watch in one of those fascinating ways. These are the first pigs I have ever been around. They are like puppies when little, but I wouldn't get in the pen with mine now.

I have my alpine/nubian baby pregnant and ready to pop. I haven't ever done the whole kidding thing before and have some buddies on speed dial in case of any emergencies. All of a sudden 3 of my 4 nannies started getting milk sacs and so I figured out that they were for sure pregnant. My poor ruthie is just pitiful shes getting so big and its her first (she is only about 1 1/2)
