I picked up 2 Males and 3 females of Exchequer Leghorn chicks the other day. I am sooo excited.

They are so cute. Don't care if these sell good or not they are egg laying machines so they are welcomed to stay. Lol

Are they SQ or HQ? I've always LOVED them!

Aw.

Woke to my hatcher being to hot. Two miracle chicks where still alive, severely glued to the shell becuase of te high heat. Have no idea how they survived te night. I think one will survive, the other still has a lot of yolk. Candled the remaining 16 eggs and they all look like goners. Such a shame. These where AyeUpChucks eggs, plus a few of my own. I had 7 hatch yesterday so its not a complete loss.

I feel your pain. I had a really bad hatch too. I think it may have been a couple of things, one or the other or both. I think I have a hot spot in the hatcher and it is not getting enough air circulating with big hatches. I had ayeupchucks eggs in there too. I got 5 chicks that survived but that was out of about 15+ eggs. Same with Not A Farm's eggs. 17 GNH made it to lock down 10 hatched and all but 3 died in the death tank. THEN my wheatens (I have 100% hatches most of the time with them) started to pip some made it out most died in the shell and the few that made it out all but 2-3 died too.

Very upsetting. I must make changes to that hatcher tomorrow before the next eggs go in lockdown.

I have dark Cornish and RLW Cornish. Most of my birds came from shipped eggs. I haven't separated them out for breeding as there is just too much snow here for me. Well that and it's bloody cold outside. I would consider a swap once I have them separated and fertility confirmed. Their eggs are med, but they are nice and meaty and they taste delicious. Just PM me in a month and hopefully this arctic crap has moved on.

I have a question for the mods....I have a pair of Bantam Black Sumatras, and a pair of Blue Brassy Backs, they lay every other day...can I offer them if the other person agrees to get them in two shipments? As in 2 sumatra and 2 brassy back and then again when I get the rest? Or does everyone think that would be a PITA?

on those leghorns Reese!! I would love to have a variety of them, but I'm afraid it gets too cold here for them, I don't heat and years ago when I had them never had great luck with them, overall during the winter, they were always the first ones I would lose when it got frigid....

Reading those posts about the hatchers has me thinking, too... I'm thinking my fan is blowing too much in the bator I switched to hatch in for this hatch... if the ones left don't hatch and are shrink-wrapped, for sure I am switching back to the other one... the ones that have hatched have been clean, tho, so I guess I'll have to see what happens with the others...

I have a question. One of my jersey giant roos died a week ago and I am starting to get alot of eggs out of my 8 jersey giant hens. I am thinking about putting my buff brahma roo with some of the hens. What kind of babies would I get from buff brahma crossed with black jersey giants. I know both are large meat birds. Would anyone be interested in any eggs from this cross?

Good Luck on the cornish eggs, most don't offer them because they are horrible layers and fertility in them isn't great either. I found some 1 time and all were clear and never grew.

You are better off trying to find some chicks or started ones. I found a trio on an auction site and won them. But, that is the only time I have seen them.
Thanks for the help, I will keep that in mind. I was thinking about chicks, but thought eggs would be easier, maybe I was wrong.
