OH! And yesterday we got our first Toulouse egg! I didn't think she'd lay this year. She's a June baby. We need to get rid of a gander, though. And fast. The one is nastier than the other and has tried to attack my son and my husband now.

I'm rearranging chicks today. Some are getting evicted from my Juvenile Detention Center into the Big House. Others are moving from the Nursery in the house to the JDC. And I've got more eggs in lockdown, so should fill the nursery back up pretty quickly!

DM keeps trying to convince me to build a coop that looks like a Dr. Suess house. That's pretty fictional. I've resisted so far.

My little brahma/leghorn pullet is getting braver each day. I have her in a hanging cage with no door so she can choose to stay or go out. Until today, she has stayed inside the shed, but now she's venturing outside to pick at grass! She flies up onto my arm when I go out too. I really like that little girl!

Production Toulouse. Since she was hatched late, I wasn't sure if she would - or maybe lay later in the year. I just wasn't expecting eggs yet.

So I've decided to keep the Augsburger chicks.  It's such a unique looking breed and it's black.  I'm happy with that.  And the fact it is a extremely rare and endangered breed.  More reason to keep and breed them.

They are extremely cool looking, so I would keep them too. I wanted them, but not a lot of money right now. And I wanted them for me not the kid which is very rare. I just love their stature.
