I think they have moved their sales to RBA. There have been lots of auctions lately. I would say you won't be seeing anymore Partridge Barthuhners for auction. From what I gathered they have culled the whole flock down to a trio after I sent her a few pictures of the cross beak chicks I was having to cull. So far I haven't found anymore.

That is sad, but, at the same time good to hear. It will be good for you that you have some as long as they don't carry any bad genes.

I was happy to hear they actually took action and not continue to breed bad genes. She is actually sending me some replacement partridge and blacks. I'm hoping to get a good black barthuhner rooster so I can put this mean boy down. Good gracious, give him more hens and he becomes a PITA.

That is great!! after the problems we have all had from time to time Jenny has always made things right- at least for me. I was just amazed at the rare assortment in place of wyandotte eggs. I think the problem is that they import all these birds and to really know what you have you have to breed them for several years, otherwise you are getting surprises. That is why the heritage birds are usually so strong and hardy. I know it would have to be hard to go around the world and try to handpick a breeder bird in only a few weeks and hope you made the right choice. I have heard so many people say they are just way to high and its ridiculous but, the expense and risk they take to import these birds is just astronomical!

I think getting those rare birds is worth the price. I mean look at the Augsburgers. Very few of those birds still remaining in the world period. To be able to own those birds is a great pleasure. To be able to breed and hopefully help establish some population here is definitely worth the money and time I'll invest in them. All imported birds are a work in progress and buyers should realize that. I wasn't expecting perfect birds but I sure don't want to deal with unseen genetic problems.

I agree. We are trying to set up a system to where part of the money we make from our egg orders/chick sales/adult bird sales will go into an account so that we can start buying more of the rare breeds from GF. I always miss the really good deals because I have no money at the time or not enough. I would love to be able to just go on the GF site and go down the list and order what I want but, got to wait on the RBA and hope I can snatch some up. I started my SFH's a little over a year ago and everyone here loves them- most everyone wants pullets only- which is fine and its kind of funny because I usually have a higher percentage of pullets hatched. But, I love getting the breed out there and they are such wonderful birds!! The Coronation Sussex have made Steve very happy that we got from GF. The Choc orps have made me really happy and the rare chick assortment... well we are giddy! I just love what GF provides for us.

I'm so glad someone pointed me to RBA. You can get birds there cheaper if you hit the deal just right. But after these chicks, I'm done for a bit. I have to grow out what I have, decide what to keep, ship out some swaps and go from there. Life will be a bit easier in 3 weeks with DH home and new pens installed.
