Hey, who you calling a hick? We have lots of hicks around the rural areas of Arkansas. LOL I was hoping it would be ok for a while with chicks.

New arrivals. They came with sixteen eggs also. Not worried about these guys as they came from a well known source. There are two Phyllis Diller type hens with a crested rooster, and three non crested hens with a non crested roo. With the few we have hatched from others eggs I'm pretty certain we will cull out a nice flock.

I dont care who the source is, no new birds added that arent quarentined away from all other birds. Even the "well known" sources can have issues.

Oh they're quarantined, but I'm pretty secure in my knowledge of them. I quarantine everything. Heck I try to quarantine my hubby when he's around too!

We still have the Basque in quarantine and will for at least another month. The new Midgets will only be in for a month. Same with these guys, but any birds I get from unknown sources get put in where they can be observed a lot. The new SFHs won't need such stringent observation. Just to be kept separate for the time in jail.

Well, between Mama2my4 and I, we actually filled the sportsman to 1 spot left, LOL! If I still get more eggs, I will be fine, because I can switch the quail eggs to a chicken flat and have more room, plus the LG is always available. But, today was a massive haul... 17 OE from AyeupChuck, 15 MF leghorns from Juststruttin, 8 LB cochins from Black Brook, 9 Tolbunt and 3 white silkies from a friend of her's, 13 eggs from my flock and 10 midget white turkeys from I forget who from Ebay. Depending on what makes it to lock down, I might be using the LG just to hatch some, since only 60ish can go into the lockdown tray in the sportsman, even less if I do hatching baskets.

I paid a total of $707 for my Sportsman 1502 off incubators.org. I like the idea of helping the small business people, but Dickey's was more expensive with shipping in comparison. I am having issues witht eh fans drying the chicks while they are still in the shells, but I upped the humidity and this last hatch went much, much better! Only one stuck and the time before there was 7 stuck. I don't have experiance with the others, but I do like my Sportsman - I have only had it 4wks.
