Question.... all this talk of bators has me thinking about my NEW hatcher I want to build. Why are all the fans, water tanks and heating elements at the TOP? Logic tells me they should be at the bottom since heat rises, moist hot air rises.... why would it not be at the BOTTOM? Am I missing something? I too am having issues with chicks drying before they zip and I want to avoid that in the next hatcher. I was thinking a diffuser of some sort so the air movement would be more around the sides. Maybe I just need a couple of computer fans really.

OH I have new Babies! I have Choc Wyandottes, SLW and GSBR from GSPR

I have more but these are my FAVS. Olive Eggers, Marans, SLM, um...... something else

The Secret Easter Bunny delivered a lovely Easter Box today with perfectly wrapped eggs! Included in the box were Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Marraduna Basque. Can't wait to incubate these! Thanks, Brandy! (Bunny tracks for a Wisconsin Easter...yep, we still have snow.)
I love your bunny tracks! I had grand intentions of including a box of baked goodies in your package, but we just about lived at the ballpark the past week and I didn't get to do any baking. I was stressed thinking it would take days to ship the package from LA to WI, but it only took ONE day! Wow. With that speedy delivery, I actually had time to bake lol! I hope the eggs didn't get thrown around too much with that kind of rush. :O

Oh yeah! I got my box! ProfTi sent me a box of yummies including tea, choco covered potato chips and some jarred goodies like apples in port wine! I must buy vanilla ice cream tomorrow to go with it...

Had to skip to the end again.. sorry!!!

I saw a few posts about bad hatches... I too had a bad hatch this last week.. my chicks were drying out too, I had switched to a different bator that I use as a hatcher and switched back when they all shrinkwrapped... VERY frustrating, especially when this last group were from Papabrooder and Juststruttin!!!! I managed to save one SFH from juststruttin and it is doing good tonite... but still, I was devastated, to say the least!!

I put my Easter hatch in lockdown this morning ( I set a little late) and added an extra sponge and am watching the humidity like a hawk now... It's been very frustrating b/c the couple of hatches before these last 2 were really good!!!

Hope you don't mind if I share a few pics... it seems like everytime I'm on noone is here and no one comments on my posts, but oh well... I don't mind whining to myself either, it's a good stress-reliever, lol!!

Here's my French Blue Copper roo... I really like him, but also appreciate any feedback you all might have about him... My boys named him Tornado... he got some frostbite this winter in the -18 temps we had, but didn't lose as much of his comb as I thought he might...

Some of my EE chicks, I think they are feathering quite nicely!!

And with that, good night!!

Cute pics Deloorashens....I'm usually on late too....I work nights so I'm on when nobody else is most of the time.
Yay!! another late nighter, lol!!!

The easter backwards swap is still set for Saturday, right?? I will have to be in and out, but plan on stopping by a few times AT LEAST!!

Well, if hot air rises wouldn't you want a fan at the top to circulate the hot air down? You don't want the top being too hot and the bottom being too cold.
