I just found out my not very helpful hubby unplugged one of the incubators on Wed. To plug in his phone. He thought I was mad on Thurs. I set the eggs on 4/1 and he unplugged it on 4/3. Any bets on viability? Not very happy with him right now.

I like her thinking.
x2!

OK.....HAPPY NOTE, TO REMIND US ALL OF WHY WE DO IT ALL......

COF SURVIVOR.....JUST "DUCKY" NOW. Aren't they amazing? He seems none the worse for the wear and as much shennigans as any self respecting duck peeping to beat the band. I am sure he gave them all what for all day!!!

REESE SURVIVOR.....Had no problem finding the food, as you can see. I can't seem to get her to get out of the bowl. She is like a toddler, needs a bib!

All in all this week, much was lost by many. But so much gained. Thank Pysanski for reminding us, though your heartbreak and healing, these moments are why we put up with the others. Thank you all for being amazing friends in an unexpected place! Krafty, I'll send toast up for you.

Oh good grief. I just got another email from the seller. I don't really understand how they could get scaly Leg Mites and Coccidiosus in the mail on there way here or how they could be so skinny from being in the mail for 3 days.  So now I am stealing and cheating for wanting something done for the sickly birds they sent me.  :/

Please let me know who this person is!!! Wow.... that sounds like they are admitting that they have sick birds

X2 Their statement "Please be advised that if the virus that your 5 sick birds have is contagious, then your whole chicken flock at home will soon be infected as well." is very worrisome, like they know these birds could be carriers of something and they're trying to avoid liability by sneaking in a disclaimer.

I have only dealt with scaly leg mites once, from a cochin I bought at a show, she was close to being disfigured, her legs where so bad. She had obviously been kept in a small cage for a long time cuz her nails where wicked long and almost curled together. I have nevrr had to cut a chickens nails before, an nevrr seen that. I coated her legs with Bag Balm every day for a week and she healed perfectly.
I did a lot of Research while i was treating her, and scaley leg mites would not be noticeable if those chicks contracted them during shipping! Not possible. It takes a little time for them to burrow and lay eggs and push the scales on the legs up, causing the swollen look. If those chicks do indeed have it (slather some Vaseline or bag balm (amazing stuff from my home state :) ) and if scales begin to fall off in clumps in a day, you can be pretty certain it's scaley leg, and the seller shipped them with it. They might not be AWARE (cuz obviously they are dimwits and uncaring) that they have this problem. Take a picture of the legs today, and then a day after you slather the legs. A healthy legged chicken may shed a little scales when you coat their legs, but a chicken with the scaley legs will do a large scale leg shed, since you are smothering the mites buried.

I have never bought, or plan to buy, from RBA, but luckily, I could always ask people on here if a certain seller is trustworthy. It is very unfortunate that you guys put so much money into these breeds from people who just don't have any respect or consideration.

I'm finally done with the animal chores. I think I've going to veg for the rest of the evening and hope this crap is gone tomorrow.

I would plug it back in. I have had eggs hatch that were sat on by a broody for I am guessing 4 days and removed from under her by a helpful friend - found out the mistake a day or two later when I used one (ick) - candled all the eggs and put the ones showing veins back under the hen and almost all of them hatched. It will slow the hatch down - but as long as you can see the veins give them a chance.

No more unplugged incubators here!! I had an extension cord running into my "closet" aka egg room, and I covered the whole outlet. Our outlets are old and kind of worn, so the smallest bump would be enough to cut power. This is the only way I can ensure no power outages (short of my husband actually replacing all the outlets, which he has been talking about doing for 6 months now). Guess I need to research how to do it myself
