Perhaps he has performance anxiety so he's rehearsing when you aren't looking.

Has anyone been a stay at home mom, not worked in a year and had to dig up references?! I've worked at two places. Both have closed. I'm kind of at a loss, because I need WORKING references! They need to be supervisors, no less. How do you figure it out and how do you explain that you just haven't worked in a year because you can't afford daycare?! I mean, they're going to automatically assume that you're lazy or whatever because you have been "sitting at home" for a year, not even any volunteer work.

I was a stay at home mom for the first two years of my older daughter's life. I did a lot of volunteer work for my church and was able to use that as work experience and references. I interviewed for two jobs and was offered a position at both. I really was worried that having been unemployed for two years would make it hard to get a job, but the people that I interviewed with were very understanding. Both positions that I interviewed for are male dominant industries. They had even more reason than normal to be biased.

They were all for having the old references faxed to them! Whew! What a massive relief. Thank goodness that they're so willing to work with me!

Glad it's working out for you! I'm home with two lil'girls right now. I always joke with my husband that I'm going to go back to work so I can get a break!

You are your best reference IMO!

Isn't that the truth? Many people look at you like you're lazy. I'd love to swap "jobs" with them for a week... Before kids, I worked 70 hours a week and LOVED IT! Now... put them at home for a week, and they'd probably go nuts. It isn't exactly a vacation to take care of kids, animals, the house and try to make money on the side and of course do anything you can to save money...

Here, here! I was thrilled when my youngest started school, and I went back to work part-time. I got to work around people who could talk in complete sentences, who picked up after themselves, and didn't whine about what they had for lunch. It was awesome!

Well, I guess the people I worked with could form complete sentences anyways, or at least most could. LOL! And that was the office job I had! My personal care job was awesome until the office started falling apart. They'd get cancellations and never tell me, often 2/3 jobs for the day would be cancelled and they'd never bother to tell me! The last straw was when I sprained my ankle. I had a 12 hour shift the next day... I called them a good 18 hours before my shift and said I'd give it my best, but please have someone on backup just in case it became too much for me. I called when it got to be too much and asked if they could send a replacement. They said I needed to have an appointment to leave. I made an appt for 2 hours later and told the office. An hour and a half later they said they couldn't get ahold of anyone. It finally got to the point that I was in tears from pain and wasn't in any shape to be working for a client. I called back and said "please get the backup from the office here within half an hour, because that's how much time you have before I leave". She finally came, I got xrays
