My DH is pretty creative. He has proposed making coops/pens out of sections of 60" hdpe pipe. I can see it working, but really depends on the price of a 20' length (cut into four ft lengths. Google is not forthcoming about pricing, but if it is less than $590, it is way less than any current plans we have. Any thoughts and/or knowleged to share?
Poly pipe has one serious drawback. It bends. If you are using it for supporting walls it will bend and bow - you will end up bracing it to keep it straight. Pros are its cheap and it doesn't rust and rot. However, how was he going to attach it together? Those T fittings are expensive (more than a 2x4x8' each) - and drilling and bolting it or gluing it together only works for a short time if it isn't a slip fit... it breaks (I have tried it).

Oh wait - you said 60" pipe? HUGE PIPE? yikes - I dunno nuttin about that...

Didn't get done what I wanted to do today but it wasn't wasted. Got the Legbar coop and pen completely cleaned. They are happy. Got chicks to drop off to new owners. And that was the best darn $90 I spent on chicks in a long time. Obviously I am keeping the first 2 on the list. I'm not sure about the rest though. Oh no, the Breda fowl will be going.

3 Augsburgers, 6 double blue laced Barnevelders, 3 Breda Fowl, 2 partridge Orps, 3 red Orps.
yeh sounds like a bargain hope it makes u lots of money.

:gig I was trying to envision a 60" t-joint and wondering what we would use it for, and thinking that I could see how that would be pricey... If it can be purchased and if they can cut it for us, I can see it working. There are plastic coops from bro sea and they tout bug control as a bonus, so I imagine that would be the case here. Any how...toying with the idea...my little hobbit holes, lol.

I hope it actually makes it to you. I have a box still missing from March 25th. I hope whoever got it sure enjoyed it.
Grrr. I just found out I'm missing one too. Grrr.

ProfTi, no worries when you can check on it
Hi all

I just wanted to stop and update everyone. I have not Disappeared. I'm still here taking care of the chickens. I have been sick and in the hospital a few times. My father in law has been sick, we are also in the middle of moving to the farm so we have been having to take care of the chickens at 2 locations.

I have 252 new PM's I am trying to get to them all a few a day.

BM6 just picked up about 10 dozen eggs from me to ship out. I have 65 laying hens so as you can imagine eggs pile up really quickly here.

Please don't PM BM6 if you have an issue with me, it is not fair to her nor does she deserve it.

Please be patient with me I am very sorry that I have not been able to answer you individually. I am not going anywhere I will make sure everyone gets their eggs/chicks. I have 500 eggs in the bator due a week from next Monday, I will be contacting people. For chicks soon.

I just really appreciate your patience, everytime I think there can't be anything else, something else happens health wise and family wise, I'm only human and I'm doing my best.

Thank you all for understanding.

Rachael
Good kharma thoughts coming your way! And, you did just say 500 eggs, right? Whoa. That's a lotta little fluffy butts.

So I made myself a coop page for my new coop....check it out!
Coopula coop
LOVE IT! I need to convince the hubs we need one of them for our goats!

Ok so I am way behind on everything as usual.... Pm's included. So if you have not gotten an answer from me, you will at some point. I would rather not say how far behind I am. If there is a swap that you think I should have sent out to you already, again please PM me with something like Overdue Swap or something in the title. If I owe you lav orp eggs, they have started to pick up again, please PM me. IF I owe you lav ams, I was almost caught up and have an extremely mean broody hen... 1st ever Am that has gone broody on me. But I could possibly work out a swap for chicks. My wonderful retired parents have offered to be my chick chauffer (sp?) to the post office probably starting in May. If anyone has PM'ed me about wanting their eggs converted to chicks, it is possible since I might have the chick transport mentioned above. I am kinda overwhelmed atm with home issues, health issues, and too many chicken issues, so might actually be selling a few of my chickens. Don't worry, they won't be sold until I work out my swaps. And before anyone asks... NO the Orps are not being sold. (except white)
I hope you feel better. wish we were close enough to help.

I always feel so ...I dunno...helpless. hands tied? when people are so far away .

but I understand "overwhelmed"
been there.

What color is this pipe?  Is it black?  that would concern me..... would get really hot.  Do keep us updated on cost and what you finally come up with.  I would like something EASY and CHEAP.

It is black, and that is concerning to me also. Paint and ventilation? .need a window of some sort too...

Can you paint that? Shade? Still toying with the idea. Have to call for pricing.
