I know what you mean, out of 40 quail, only two are laying... And out of 28 chickens, two are laying. However, only 8 of those are laying age, but still! I want eggs to swap!!

X3 Over 100 chickens...maybe 10 eggs and since the ones laying are my swap eggs, I don't dare eat them LOL. Yes I bought eggs from the market.

I have plenty of eggs, but my daughter asked last night if I was going to buy market eggs to make deviled eggs for Thanksgiving. I just stared at her with a blank look on my face. She has discovered that fresh eggs boiled do not peel well.

We are now 2 months into this thread and we would like to make sure that everyone is meeting their obligations in a timely manner. If you have claimed eggs before Nov. 6th (unless the offer stated there would be a delay) and have not received them or a DC# that they have been sent, please PM me with the details. If you have claimed PP and it has not been sent within 3 days, also let us know. We will try to make sure we keep on top of any trends.

I have finally finished a summary of all the swaps since the beginning of this thread up to Nov. 15. It is sorted according to each swapper and includes the swaps you claimed and the ones you promised. It can be accessed here:

Disclaimer:This spreadsheet is for reference only. I believe all are valid swaps, but I may have missed a roll back or two. If you find a mistake, let me know and I will investigate it.

Here are this week's current standings as of 6:30AM, Wed. Nov. 21. For all potential new swappers, we welcome your participation, but please read the rules on page 1, post #1 of this thread.

Game #1 - Whenever someone goes over 7 swaps, they lose 2 swaps the following week. The first person to catch it and post "Jinx"- (name of person going over), gets an extra swap in the current week. If crazypetlady (CPL) goes over, everyone gets an extra swap that week, and the first person to catch her and post "Jinx-CPL" gets a special prize of eggs from CPL. Start stalking!

Game #2 - Whoever claims the 50th, 75th, and 100th swap of the day (yes, I think we will get up that high this spring or before) will win an extra wild card swap to be used in the winner's week of choice.

This weeks winners of the wild card swaps (so far) are cjwaldon (Sun), gamebirdsonly (Mon), and CasieD (Tue). Congratulations!

CPL went crazy this week, so looks like everyone gets tons of extra swaps this week.

Below is a list of the new swappers that still have to complete their initial 7 swaps, so are limited to one swap at a time until each one is verified. Once you have been cleared by crazypetlady, kraftyladies, babymakes6 or madamwlf for another swap, you may claim another, regardless of what my list says. I don't keep track of whose swaps have been verified, just the swappers that need to have that done. My list is only published once a night, but your swapping status may change a few times during the day. Once all of your 7 initial verified swaps are completed, your name will be moved to the big list. I may not have everyone's name here that is already swapping, but all new swappers will be added here until I hear differently. As long as all your previous swaps have been completed and verified, you are good to go! Happy swapping!

I have 250+ chickens. Even if 150 are boys/too young, that should be a LOT of eggs. Yesterday I got 14 and most of those are bantams. Twenty-five laying quail hens, I got 6 eggs. I'm going to start reading them recipes! Unfortunately most of the birds laying are my show/egg swap birds too. I was getting 4-5 dozen eggs per day and they just stopped, practically on cue.

I've had a dozen bantam eggs saved sitting on the counter for about a week now, just so I can make deviled eggs tomorrow.

Here is a trick I learned in culinary school, and it has never failed me, even with fresh eggs. This is for standard large eggs. I used the same method for pain in the rear quail eggs, only with a shorter time (think it was 4 minutes?)
Fill pot with enough water to cover the eggs.
Bring to a boil, the moment it starts boiling, set a timer for 12 minutes. Reduce it to a simmer.
After 12 minutes, immediately remove from the stove and put eggs in an ice bath (ice and water) until they are cold. Viola! Perfect cooked eggs. If you overcook, there will be a greenish tint to the outside of the yolk, or undercook- they will be harder to peel.

I have had great success with immediately putting them in ice water and then leaving them in the fridge over night before trying to peel.
