One is definitely solid with no sign of barring whatsoever, that is the one I think is a pullet. The other one I think is a cockerel is also solid but I will look more closely to see if there is any pattern at all...of course like u said it could still come in later on. I think if the roo is heterozygous for barring there is a chance that solid chicks would come out...but if the hen is also barred then I think the solid ones can only be pullets. At least, I think...so confusing! Barred to barred produces 100% barred only if the roo is homozygous for barring. If he is heterozygous non-barred are possible. That is my understanding anyway, I will look it up again to make sure...

Hens pass the barring 100% to roos chicks and if the Breeding roo has only one copy he will pass it on to only half the chicks. (Neither roo I used has only one copy, both have 2 copies 100% sure on that) So if that was the case 100% of the roo chicks are barred (50/50 with 1 copy and 2 copies) pullets you would get 50/50 barred and solid. So there is NO way to make a roo without barring from the pens I have.... and really no way to make ANY solid chicks as my Old BR roo had 2 copies and the GSBR has 2 copies too.

Here is the OLD roo I don't have anymore you can tell from his barring he is carrying 2 copies... see how much WHITER he is the the BR hen's tail feathers are?



NOW what might have happened is there is a Barred hen that was in there and she MAY have been autosomal barred.... not sure how that passes on. But still the roos will give 100% barred chicks even if over a Solid hen.

Keep an eye on them and let me know... I bet the barring will show down the road.

Here are this week's current standings as of 12:00AM, Fri. Nov. 23. For all potential new swappers, we welcome your participation, but please read the rules on page 1, post #1 of this thread.

Game #1 - Whenever someone goes over 7 swaps, they lose 2 swaps the following week. The first person to catch it and post "Jinx"- (name of person going over), gets an extra swap in the current week. If crazypetlady (CPL) goes over, everyone gets an extra swap that week, and the first person to catch her and post "Jinx-CPL" gets a special prize of eggs from CPL. Start stalking!


Game #2 - Whoever claims the 50th, 75th, and 100th swap of the day (yes, I think we will get up that high this spring or before) will win an extra wild card swap to be used in the winner's week of choice.


CPL went crazy this week, so looks like everyone gets tons of extra swaps this week.
