?? I have never had sizzles or frizzles etc. Do they breed true - ie..frizzle = frizzle

It is not advisable to breed frizzle to frizzle. So Frizzle to smooth = 50% frizzle
Sizzle are frizzled silkies..so really are the same thing.

Thanks - I have seen many of them both online and for sale at different places. Many people were selling them as trios and I thought I had read somewhere that you shouldn't breed them to each other.

And they are really cute.

I have some..but have not been offering them because the rooster with them is still molting and eggs are not fertile.

I should just switch out the roosters but I hate to upset the pens and then the hens will quit laying.

So - If I were going to have frizzle silkie - I would need to breed say a "regular" silkie rooster with "frizzle" girls and then I would get 50/50. Do they all then carry the gene or would they breed true to their "regular" or "frizzle" type?

I think I have a broody hen! she hasn't left her post in two days and has stopped laying.

should I try to get her out of it or should I try to get some eggs for her to sit on?
we are in Virginia, so the winters are not usually too horrible.

I am impatient to try hatching out some eggs with her, but I don't want to end up with dead chicks because of my impatience...

I have my first broody hen too! She's been sitting there for four days maybe. My problem is I know she is sitting on two infertile eggs... I just checked the same eggs and they aren't fertile. If she has already been sitting for four days, if I where to go buy some fertile eggs and put them under her, will she sit on them for long enough time?
I'm not worried about the cold here in Florida, although all the standing water outside actually froze last night, but I think in the coop she and the eggs will be fine. I would plan on bringing the chicks in to the brooder - but I have never had a broody so I don't know how momma would take care of the chicks. Are yours in a coop protected?

I have a broody hen too! I moved her into a pen in the house on the 20th because I wanted to keep an eye on her it's both of ours first time lol. I did change eggs because the one she was sitting on I knew was not fertile. She adapted fine and seemed happy because she got 3 extra eggs. This cool to have others go broody at the same time. I hope you both let them sit on eggs and we can do this together. :D

My broody finally got up from the nest and ate and had some water. I'm so glad! I know others told me she would be fine and would do it eventually but to finally witness makes me feel sooooo much better. So far so good she has turned the eggs and is sitting on them again. :D.
:weee

my problem is I just lost my SG roo (getting a new roo in Feb, but not going to help me now! and my barnevelders aren't laying yet. so I would have to find some fertile eggs pretty quick or go with my mutt eggs. wonder what a marans BV cross would look like...LOL or a BV welsummer.

I do have some eggs coming int he spring from some swaps. but even if they DO have eggs for now, mailing in the next week would be problematic, right?
