my problem is I just lost my SG roo (getting a new roo in Feb, but not going to help me now! and my barnevelders aren't laying yet. so I would have to find some fertile eggs pretty quick or go with my mutt eggs. wonder what a marans BV cross would look like...LOL or a BV welsummer.
I do have some eggs coming int he spring from some swaps. but even if they DO have eggs for now, mailing in the next week would be problematic, right?
Yay! I am offically NPIP certified!!!!!!!!!e
well guess what! the mystery eggs I've been collecting for the last two days from the nestbox that noone uses are barnevelder eggs! I just found her sitting there next to the broody hen (other box.)Sorry to hear no Roo.
Mutts are an option who knows they could be interesting for 1st time broody not knowing how well she will do.
yes shipping probably would be problematic next week with Xmas.
Do what's right for you.![]()

Just a fertile as any other egg usually, I will wait till they are a little bigger before I set them. They do hatch fine, usually a smaller chick. I just hatched a Marans pullet egg and she is the smallest one of the bunch.
oh, heck. I want to do this. I really do.
I am going to collect the pullet eggs and put them under her on Christmas day. Should have 6 eggs by then. If nothing happens, then no loss to me. If they hatch out and it seems too cold for them down there (I can use a heat lamp!) then I will put her in the basement with them until they feather out.
They are cleared.Received paypal from BettaCreek and CluckyCharms. Can someone clear them?
