I would LOVE some SLW. My husband really like ours, and it dropped dead in the pen after being scared by dogs.

I just made some homemade eggnog yummy. My neighbor bought me over some eggs... Which was nice, but I really didn't need them. Think I am going to make some creme brûlée and some brioche too to burn through the eggs I already have

how do you make egg nog

You take egg yolk and sugar and whisk together - I usually put them in a bowl over a pot of water and cook them a little like I was making hollandaise, makes it even thicker. Add whole milk nutmeg and whiskey (or no whiskey if you don't want it in there) then take the egg whites and beat them separately until they form soft peaks (they will be light and fluffy, when you dip the whisk in, the whites should pull away from the rest and hold the shape a little before falling back) then fold the whites into the yolk mixture

:caf Morning all! I know most of y'all have been up for a while. I've been up and down since 330 with a teething month old! Need some serious coffee!

I'd just like to get it out there that I'm glad that lluther is joining us. I'm glad when anyone joins to be honest. I think everyone should own chickens. There's no bad blood or ill will. It was just a strange string of events. I think things can easily be taken out of context in the cirtual world. I'm just happy to have my health, my family and people like y'all.

I can't WAIT for this evening! :weee Love some backward swap action! I've got some fun things I'm hoping to offer in the egg/chick/woodworking/artsy fartsy land of Lagniappe Farms!

Good morning! I'm playing catch-up as always lol! Sorry in advance for the long post

Heather - congrats on the White Bresse! I really thought you had already worked something out with GFF. I'm disappointed that the communications with them stalled AGAIN. Wow. CJ - what you did was amazing. Awesome kindness! My little Bresse chicks are really growing; they are about 4 weeks now. I was trying to wait them out to see how many boys vs girls I ended up with to see how many I could package up for you, but I STILL can't tell them apart!

There is one chick that has noticeable comb and wattle development, but nothing on the others. I know (with my luck) there's no way I ended up with one cockerel and 9 pullets lol! I will say that I am a bit disappointed at the slow development of leg color. They hatch out with yellow legs and start developing color between 3 and 4 weeks. I have a few with nice development and some that are still fairly yellow. This may be something we'll have to watch. I'm guessing that with limited breeding stock not many birds are being culled for undesirable traits at this point.

I LOVED the story about Turner and Tumbles! Those were 2 resilient chicks!

I'm astonished at how the Keurig coffee makers have taken over. I used to have an electric pot, but my husband and I don't stay home long enough in the mornings to drink more than a cup or 2, so we gave it away a couple years ago and got a coffee press. Love it!

Need some advice...I have shipped caj Basque eggs twice and none have made it to lockdown.

The first shipment was my first time sending eggs and I think a couple were broken. I changed my packing method a bit and the 2nd set almost made it intact. I think she had one cracked egg. I've got to get this down. I read some info Deb posted (I think it was Deb haha) about shipping with foam pipe insulators, so I picked some up from the hardware store. My eggs are bigger than the largest insulator though. How do you use it? I am going to try that if I can figure the size issue out and am going to try double boxing as well.

My chicken addiction, combined with the fact that I like to be at home when possible, is making me grumpy today. I have a wedding to attend at 4pm with a dinner afterwards and expected to be home fairly early. We usually spend New Year's Eve sitting around a bonfire with the kids. It's raining here so the bonfire is out, but I am so looking forward to all the chicken-related festivities online. Now the bride has decided she wants us all to go "out" after the dinner because she has never been "out".

I am really a homebody and wouldn't even begin to know where to bring her, especially on NYE. I'm pretty sure you have to purchase tickets in advance to get in almost anywhere tonight. AND I REALLY don't want to miss the online fun. Sorry. Enough grumpiness.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Sounds great! I have a question. I have an extra still in the box dog training collar. Would anyone be interested if I were to offer this? I got two when they went on clearance and Lowe's and haven't ever opened it.

I will be here!
I wanted to update you on those BCM eggs that my son got ahold of. I checked them a minute ago, fearing the worst. The membranes both look good, and the one I took a picture of is rocking back an forth, and the other (which is actually missing more shell!) I can see movement through the membrane! That makes me feel better.
I am wondering through, if the lack of shell will actually hinder the chicks ability to turn, pip and unzip?? I assume they use the pressure on the shell to turn around in the egg, since the shell is cracked and (assumingly) give way, I am going to have to keep an eye on that.

How cool is that? I have no idea how it will affect the hatch -- but it'd sure be neat to watch! Kinda like having ringside seats :)

Can I use it on my husband??? Might make his selective hearing change.
