No one ever enters any fenced area here. Our state inspectors dont even ask to, so I sure as heck wont let Joe Public. We handle all the birds, buyers can look not touch, once they buy we plce them in their crate or box and they can touch all they want. I am so happy waterfowl dont pick stuff as easily as chickens. Which of course has me all heeby jeeby with wanting to add new chickens this year too.

I had some birds from them as well early last year that came sick. They responded well to Tylan however I had done a loose quarantine and one of my pullets died from what they carried. So, make sure you keep these quarantined and honestly unless you know what it is (which you really can't unless you have a good vet hospital like we have in our town), I would practice pretty strict biosecurity. I have heard of a number of birds coming and being sick. A friend of mine had two very expensive birds die from something they came with. So bummed to hear that!!! They will likely perk up with antibiotics...you just have to watch out for the rest of your birds and they may still be carriers.... hope it isn't anything too bad. There is definitely some mild upper respiratory stuff but there is also some not so mild. :-(

It's a huge bummer to pay a lot of money for chickens that come and end up sick. often GFF or any shipper may not now because it's only the stress of being shipped that brings out the symptoms in what otherwise appears like a healthy chicken. I have purchased quite a few adult or older chickens and brought them home to have them show symptoms during the quarantine period when they had now show any other symptoms prior according to the seller. So hard and frustrating!!

I hope they perk up and hope you hear back from GFF. The bad press is gonna get to them eventually and hopefully customer service will improve. I have only had positive interactions but the stories contrary to my experience are stacking up quickly. sad....

prayers going up for your babies!
This happens a lot apparently.. I lost dozens of birds because of sick birds sent by GF even though I practice crazy OCD biosecurity. Unfortunately shipping carrier birds often brings out symptoms due to stress. Big hugs to you and best wishes for the health and well-being of your chicks.

forgot to say that I ended up culling my entire flock due to the birds that I got. Thankfully i was starting over with a move to a new location so it was an easier decision. I ended up opting for chicks instead of juveniles for the replacements as I figured they would not have been exposed to whatever had affected my chickens. The replacement chicks did great and I had no trouble with them.
Me too. Culling was the only thing I felt comfortable doing. Carriers are too risky. So sorry you had to cull your birds.

GF offered you replacements, Papa? They didn't even give me the refund they promised me.

When you guys treat the birds with meds, what do you do with eggs? Can't be eaten by us, so I'm wondering, can they eat them or would that risk overdose? Can you hatch the eggs, or are they not likely to hatch or deformed or possibly sick with whatever the parents are being treated for in the diseases that pass through eggs? Are those eggs all doomed to be garbage?

And, when treating, do you do the entire flock just in case? Like say papa's birds, would you treat all of the shipped birds AND the existing flock just in case of contamination? And if not the existing flock, when do you deem it safe to put the others with them? Sorry for all of the questions, but now my mind is cranking, lol. Oh, for injectibles, do you practice human grade sterility, or do you rinse needles/reuse for different birds for each dose, and do you use alcohol wipes before injection? For some reason, I'm imagining people reusing needles and no alcohol, but it goes against everything I learned in nursing school, lol.
