Yeah, I don't know either! I've got two that were supposedly BCMs (in Meyer's leftovers bin) but I'll be darned if, from chickhood on thru to 8 weeks now, I can tell 'em apart from my aussie chicks. It's fine with me if they're aussies! This is my "table egg" mutt flock, anyway

look for gold hackles for bcm.

When you catch and "rehome" the critters that are causing you problems you basically just turned em loose on someone else.
That, and they spread disease. What they carry in one area they might not be immune to in another. The racoons around here were wiped out by distemper pretty much last year. I don't mind, since there aren't any for me to deal with this year, but I would hate to be responsible for spreading disease to those who are where they are supposed to be.

We've had coon problems here too...although he won't let me see him...only the deer cam I got set up. Atleast my new chicken shed is almost done and fully enclosed with some vents for ventilation and runs. Will post pics when its really finished.

Quote: Probably not from a hatchery. BCM would not be showing color at this age unless they are roos. Leg color maybe, but with hatchery birds you never know really. Marans SHOULD have white skin on the bottom of the feet. BUT they are hatchery birds and might be yellow anyway. Marans chicks should look like penguins you know with little tuxes on. White neck, chest and belly and usually on the wing tips too.

DM, that's how they looked. Except so did the Australorps. LOL! Yes, the BCMs are hatchery stock -- if they are BCMs. If not, I got two extra 'Lorps :) One of these days I need to get a breed standard book!

All my hatchery birds are going in one big mixed flock, for daily egg layers and 'cause they're pretty running around the yard. My good birds are all getting their own runs, come spring!
