I have 2 eggs pipped and hoping to get more.  I'm down to 6 eggs now.  

Your in my thoughts and praying they all hatch for you.....hope you can post some pictures after too!

I just opened my bator and chicks came popping out from every shelf, lol I think it is a 100% hatch -1 white leghorn that still hasn't pipped. Soooo I lost that cheat sheet you sent I think I see splash Marans? And all 4 blue eggs with L or ML are lav amers? And TONS of blue barred rocks. Some white chick with a spot on it's head? A sex linked maran? I didn't expect them until tomorrow so I didn't have the hatching baskets ready. There are a lot of either blue,splash or lav chickies.

I hate it when that happen.

Long shot here... I got another incubator and am looking to fill it for the next hatch, if at possible.

I am wondering if there is anyone who has me on their egg list has any available to ship the week of December 10th? BHep and KYTinpusher are on the list for that week already.. thanks to both!

I'm willing to compromise on variety if necessary. Some are already mystery swaps.. Anyway, thanks for considering it.

Okay. I have to do this. First, thank you everybody for sending such wonderfully, carefully packed eggs, all of which made it here safely so far. But I have to say Pastrymama is the egg-shipping queen! Despite their coming all the way from Arizona, and despite the USPS sending them hither and yon for FOUR DAYS before letting me have them, out of eleven marraduna basque eggs and three duck eggs, not one had a detached air cell. Not a single one!

So I have to publicly genuflect:

You guys are giving me a great tutorial in how to pack eggs properly -- how cool is that??? I have to say, it does seem to help if they're packed so that they're upright, big side up, when they ship rather than laying on their side. And cjwaldon, WHERE did you get that wonderful packing tape?? It says right on it "Caution! Live shipping eggs - do not x-ray" in bright orange letters. Great stuff!

So now I have Naragansetts in the incubator, SFH about to go in, and basques and CCLS and three duckies all resting from their arduous journeys. YAY!!!!!!!!!

So, what is Pastrymama's secret packing method? I got my first box of eggs packed in fine wood chips (not quite sawdust) but no better luck on those eggs than any other box of eggs.

I got 2 dozen expensive eggs yesterday, shipped on their sides. I'll just say this is the first time I've seen eggs that look scrambled inside the shell. I won't even try to count the multiple bubbles where there should be a single air cell.

CJ, that's miserable! I'm so sorry. And those are EXPENSIVE eggs!!!

The one biggest thing I've noticed so far is whether the eggs are packed upright, big side up or whether they're on their sides. Every egg I've gotten has arrived intact, but with the big-side-up ones there's been one or maybe two air cells detached. With the ones on their sides it's consistently half the eggs or more.

Pastrymama had put thin styrofoam sheets along the side walls of the box, a double layer of big-bubble bubble wrap on the bottom and again over the top of the eggs, and each egg was bubble-wrapped and stood upright in the center. It was apparently pretty effective!

I'm so sorry again on your isbars. That bites.

Oh no... How terrible!!! I've received eggs on their sides and lost quite a few to the same issue. I think vertical shipping methods are the best, from my limited experience so far. So sorry you lost valuable eggs!
