Sounds like my kind of mix. I have some paints in the incubator that I'm hoping will hatch on Christmas day... I also have porcelain, black split to lavender, gray, and a few other projects I'm considering... I love Silkies!!! I can't wait to see pictures of them. If I had to choose only two breeds to keep, it would be Silkies and just about any color of LF Orpington...

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Today has been sad, but we do rejoice that our Stephanie is well and happy. I know in my heart she would not come back if it were even possible. When I try to imagine heaven, it is more than my mind can comprehend. We may have only had a short time here, but heaven is forever.
After the Silver Phoenix hatched this morning we ran to the feed store ($$$$) when we got back, there was a Silver Sebright.. This was a mixeed lot I set and now golden Sebrights pipping, White and Splash Silkies pipping and 4 unknowns. I guess I thought I would remember;) I have no idea what I'm going to do with them. I just keep putting in eggs - I think I need professional hatching intervention:lol:

Just got a hens choice from DMRippy :D it's a very pretty mix, packed well, with extras, THANKS!

Now a bit of a USPS rant: a few hours ago I got a call from our mail carrier. She is a sweet lady, and usually really good. But as she went in the back to deliver another package she read all the warnings on mine. Although it was clearly marked in RED bold letters, she just loaded it up without looking she said, and it got to ride the bumpy dirt roads around my house, till it got here :( She apologized, but what can be done now...?

None of the eggs are cracked. But I'm not the best candler to tell if damage has been done inside.

Crossing my fingers that setting for a few days waiting for the NYDH will help settle any jiggling they experienced. Thanks DMRippy for the beautiful eggs! :D

Aren't her eggs the best? I live on a rural route and can't always make it to the post office to pick up eggs. I talked to my carrier and showed her where to put my eggs when they come. I call it my "mail room" so she is able to open a door and set them inside the "mud room" where I brood chicks. I've had great hatches with them delivered this way.

Now, our substitute carrier was not so good. She put a box of Speckled Sussex eggs outside the door in an open topped bag (right under the slant of the roof). I had parent teacher connferences that night and it decided to rain. Not one egg was any good. I told my carrier (a mom of a former student) who then told the office clerk and the post master (of several offices). The sub got a good talking to by all three at different times. You'd think she would have learned. Nope. She left another box outside. I told my carrier and she assured me it would not happen again. (And it hasn't).

My carrier is just great. I got a pair of Juv Jersey Giants. She delivered them to my "mail room" before she went to the next post office to get their mail to deliver it.

I could go on and on about everything the clerk and carrier have done.

So, I guess what I'm saying is your eggs should be fine.

Deb, that is funny! I was just reading thru to catch up and was going to concur with the guy thing and use you as another example.
It was fun 'reading' the Laken-eggs as I was unpacking them. Got 'em put in the 'oven' last night so keeping fingers crossed. Also got the little lovelies from MzC (cjwaldon) all kissed and tucked in as well. thanks to both of you. k/

So I go out to the barn this morning to check on the chickens and notice the stall door next to theirs is closed. Huh. Did I do that? I don't think so. So I open it to find...

LOL! I'd forgotten. I'd been talking with my landlady's niece a few months ago and mentioned that I had four Australorp hens, but no roo. (She's got a BA flock). Obviously, she decided I needed one! Isn't he handsome?

Of course, he got out almost immediately and spent most of the day pacing the perimeter of my grown-up flock pen, chest-bumping through the wire with my cuckoo marans roo. I couldn't get any good chest-bump pictures -- in fact, with my phone I can't get any good pictures at all! -- but here they are facing off, at least :)

Big Black is now tucked away in one of the stalls (luckily, I'd already started fitting it up for incoming chickens) with my four aussie girls, one of whom is about 3 1/2 months old. The other three are about six weeks younger. So I have my first quintet! Hopefully they'll adjust to running as a family :)

Just for fun, here's my everything-but-the-kitchen-sink pen:

The plywood door in back slides up - I just have to yank the rope :) And hey, I can get LOTS more chickens in there still! LOL!

And here's one of my Dellies, back when she was really little:

She still thinks she's a shoulder bird :)
