Black over barred should produce black pullets and barred cockerels (I think).

Silver Laced over Blue should take at least 2 generations to get blue with black lacing in theory. Tazcat70 has been working on this with Wyandottes I think. You could try PM'ing her.

As for the Birchens, is there any way any of the hens are carriers of Birchen? If they are, you could raise some black cockerels from the black x carriers and cross back to the hens. This would produce some Birchen offspring.

I don't think any of my black hens would be carriers. My Roos offspring would have, but they also all carried the vulture hock, so I didn't deem them worth keeping. I may try to breed my birchen with my black frizzle hen, who is pretty nice type (I think) and see if I can get anythig worth breeding back.

So you think breeding black over barred would lead to sex link? This is where I get super confused with genetics. When people post stuff like bl/BL I really don't know what thu are talking about or how they know it. I also would be interested if anyone knew of a basic book that would give me a clue (a fairly hard thing to do  )

Im sorry to interupt the genetic stuff , wich though I dont understand seems really intersting, But I had to share I found a way to keep chicks happy and very content,
I have a long fleec tube about 24+? inches long you drape it over your neck and or shoulders after heating it up to help with muscle soreness and stuff or you can get it cold, (its filled with rice) .
Well the chics LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

Good Idea!! I have been looking for something that would be warm for the chicks to snuggle, but easy enough to keep clean. I bet I could make one with a zipper that would be washable....

Yep you could or you could make one end a draw string and as long as you wernt packing it super tight or being to hard on it I bet a nice tight drawstring would work but so would a zipper , just be carefull to us a plastic one thats microwave safe as metal and microwaves dont mix lol , or you could make and inner tube thats all sealed up but have a cover you could remove to wash.

Those are possibly the most contented chicks I've ever seen in my life :) Good idea!!!

Question- when someone advertises their birds as being from a specific line ie..Greenfire farm are the chicken/eggs that they are selling directly out of a Greefire bird or do they have Greenfire somewhere in the lineage of the birds/eggs?
